Balanced PFS TWF Gunslinger

Advice

Shadow Lodge

Hello fellow gamers!

I realized that among my list of back-up PFS character concepts [for if I die at level 2 or 3, which happens a little too often], that I had a lack of ranged concepts. One of the few I had was a juggler that fought with two guns that he juggled around to reload. I always skipped it because all of the ways to reload as a free action with 2 pistols seemed like they didn't agree with flavor [for instance, a weapon cord would flavor-wise, be potentially hitting you with your own gun if you were reloading a gun 7 times in 3 seconds].

Then I found the feat Gun Twirling. This feat seems incredibly flavorful{it is essentially juggling your gun[s]} and seemed like it was cool.

So, I was wondering how one might make a well-balanced TWF Gunslinger who both was plenty viable and wasn't OP. I am thinking of either going 1-level Mysterious Stranger dip and then taking the rest of my levels in a mix of a Charisma-based class and fighter[dipping for feats], or going with a Pistolero for 5 levels and then either taking Evangelist PrC or any other martial ranged class [and probably again dipping fighter for feats]. I'm not too partial to going full gunslinger because I don't find many of the options they have past level 5 very interesting and useful. Tons of interesting, but not much useful.

Thoughts/Advice?

bump?

Scarab Sages

Weapon Cords are now a move action to use, which negates most TWF Gunslingers.

That's why he takes Gun Twirling.

As long as you don't use double barrel guns you should be balanced. Since you'll be feat starved as hell, I'd go with 3-4 levels of (weapon master?) Fighter.

I'm thinking of just taking 1 level of Gunslinger then going straight fighter, because I can't get the feats in. But even with that I can't seem to get everything in before level 7ish. I also might wind up starting around then, depending on how things play out [with a combo of an awful lot of GMing games and/or the Dragons Demand]. Any way of getting both Gun Twirling, Precise Shot, Quick Draw, and Two-Weapon Fighting quickly[before 6, in case I can't/don't start around 7]?

Well, you need Gun Twirling, Dazzling Display, Weapon Focus, Quick Draw, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, and Two Weapon Fighting.

That's seven feats. You get feats at 1, 3, 5, 7; Fighter 1, Fighter 2, and one for human (you didn't mention race).

Fighter 2/Gunslinger 5 can have all the feats you want at level 7, and Dex to damage.
1 Point Blank
H Precise Shot
F1 Weapon Focus
F2 Quick Draw
3 Dazzling Display
5 Gun Twirling
7 Two Weapon Fighting

Gunslinger 2/Ranger 2/Fighter 2 gets you all the feats you need by level 6, but no Dex to damage.
1 Weapon Focus
H Dazzling Display
3 Quick Draw
R2 Precise Shot (or TWF)
5 Gun Twirling
F1 TWF (or Point Blank)
F2 (Precise Shot, if needed)

The dex to damage is pretty huge. I'd rush the 5 gunslinger levels, the go fighter, and only in those last few levels pick up the feats like quick draw and TWF and Gun Twirling, which will be largely irrelevant until then (when your to-hit will actually warrant your strategy).

If you are allowed to take Trench Fighter, you end up with more feats available (even after spending 3 on amateur gunslinger, gunsmithing and exotic weapon proficiency) than a straight gunslinger plus you get weapon training and Dex to damage at 3rd level rather than 5th.

It seems like the recent schedule will not be allowing me to start at level 7 anytime soon.

So, I've been thinking and I came up with

This:
Human Pistolero 1-7
Stats:
Str10
Dex18
Con14
Int10
Wis14
Cha10

Feats:
1:Point-Blank Shot
1:Precise Shot
3:Rapid Reload[Pistol]
5:Weapon Focus[Pistol]
5:Dazzling Display
7:Rapid Shot

I'm thinking of skipping Gun Twirling/TWF until higher levels, since it is a heavy feat tax and won't really add anything until the levels where Touch AC is pretty much an Auto-Hit compared to high attack bonuses. A couple of questions though:
How useful is the Pistolero compared to just standard Gunslinger at low levels? I get that at 11 its great, since you get Signature Deed[Up Close and Deadly] for free damage, but how often does it come up before then?

@Gilarius:Trench Fighter is illegal in Pathfinder Society unfortunately.

Silly build: 5 levels of gunslinger, rest as Warpriest, use Dagger Pistols and grab weapon finesse at some point (and if the ACG comes out, whatever the option to add dex to damage will be... if there will be).

Tiefling Gunslinger with the Tail racial trait. No need for gun twirling.

Pistolero is the best choice for an archetype and you really out to consider taking gunslinger to level 6 for one reason - the saves. Pistolero is superior in APs because you should not need to use the deadeye deed very often while being able to pump out that extra damage can make the difference. If firearms were easier to obtain so you could afford both a musket and pistols then I would favor the gunslinger.

To make the build work you need 5 feats before even getting two weapon fighting:

weapon focus
dazzling display
quick draw
gun twirling
rapid reload

even as a human you should be looking at fighter for the second class just because you need the feats, there are a lot of feats which would help greatly (precise shot & point blank shot are edit: not necessary, just really useful).

if I were building this character I'd take 5 levels of pistolero followed by 2 levels of fighter, followed by a 6th level of pistolero for the saves.

L1)(Human bonus) rapid reload, precise shot
L3) rapid shot
L4)(Gun bonus) weapon focus
L5) dazzling display
L6)(Fight bonus) quick draw
L7)(Fight bonus) gun twirling, two weapon fighting
