Animal companion weapons

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi everyone! I know this is a question asked many times, but i couldnt find what i needed with the search button. I am looking for weapons created for animal, like tigers, which can be held with the mouth or weapons that are similar to natural attacks' body parts ( for example a steel claw, which can be enchanted). Is there anything like that in the books?

Closest thing I know of is Claw Blades, which are for catfolk. That said, nothing stops you from houseruling n something crazy awesome, or even just reskinning the cat to wear weapons but function like natural weapons.

Nope. Animals are intended to be using their natural weapons.

Not that I wouldn't like to see a tail attachment or two for an ankylosaurus...

... But why would you want an Ankylosauras with three tails?

You know what, that answers itself. Nevermind!

I was thinking something like 2 steel claws which does 1d6 of normal damage ( as tiger's claws) but enchantable. Do you think that's unbalanced? I would like to do this mainly because animal have a very small growth on weapon damage, basically only the one given by the growth of strength.

Silver Crusade

As this is part of the general discussion board, I'm going to assume this isn't for PFS and houserules can be made. It seems the closest thing you're going to get (that I can find) are Claw Blades. Even with these, it wouldn't make much sense to have it work with an Animal Companion because a tiger's toes aren't long enough to slide special claw things over them, but you can always ask your GM if they'll allow it. Also, have you seen what a cat does while walking when something is stuck to their feet? Rather interesting to see.

However, there have been real-life examples of people grafting metal over a tiger's fangs (think of what happens when you get a metal filling in your tooth, but completely covering it). It probably wouldn't go so well with character flavor though since every class that gets an animal companion would find the idea of sedating a close animal companion, filing/breaking their teeth, and grafting on unnatural metal rather appalling.

You can also use an amulet of mighty fists on the tiger, barding (critter armor), and a belt of strength.

Kitties do NOT have a problem doing damage. A reasonably geared or buffed kitty charge/pouncing over the battlemat can easily out damage some fighters.

Probably not overpowered, at least in my opinion. Weapon damage dice usually don't add much though. Going from D4 to D6 is only .5 damage extra on average, and may just save you time looking for a D4 and reading the darn triangle instead of the top if your like me.

Animals usually wear an amulet of mighty fist or get magic fang/greater magic fang cast on them. Has its ups and downs because of the way amulet of mighty fist cost/operates.

You all have a point. I'll talk to my gm and see what he thinks. I am not going to let my tiger my tiger get implants, just something like tied to her feet/ toes, though i understand that isnt to much realistic. My main problem is that i am new to PF and d&d in general and i am trying to figure things out. I think i am building my tiger wrong, but i didnt find any feats combination that did what i wanted. Giving her more damage with weapons was a way to overcome this problem, not the brightest idea probably. Which feat do you suggest to make my pet a damage dealer?

>>This<< Druid guide might be of some help to you and >>this<< feat from >>this<< very good pdf will give your tiger Lassie-level intelligence and open up lots of useful feats too.

There are Horseshoes that make your attacks silver and Holy, no reason not to houserule something similar for a tiger. I'd allow fang/claw caps to bypass material DR, and make them enchantable as weapons. for a tiger, with claw/claw/bite/rakex2... that's 5 separate weapon enchants instead of one AoMF... but whatever.

You said you're new though, for the record, the Amulet of Mighty Fists costs the same as 2 +X weapons, and can bypass damage reduction to a certain extent. A +1 Amulet of Mighty Fists counts as magic, a +3 Amulet of Mighty Fists counts as silver and cold iron, +4 counts as adamantine, and +5 bypasses alignment.

You could also consider Greater Magic Fang with the spell Permanency to make it permanent unless dispelled. This will set you back about 7.5k gold if you cast Greater Magic Fang yourself and get a friendly Wizard to do the rest.

Another option is the Eldritch Claws feat, which makes your natural weapons magic & silver for the purposes of Damage Resistance. As this costs a feat and only really affects DR I'd usually avoid it though.
