Card Database

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I was just wondering- is there an online card database for this game anywhere - i.e. the sort of place you can go to search, and get an idea of how many of a particularl type of monster/barrier/spell with "arcane" etc. there are, or what levels of checks future cards would be?

I've found sites like this very useful when playing other games, and it seems like it would be even more valuable in a game like this where decisions have longer-term effects: Do I want to enable Kyra to add her Magic D8 to battles against Outsiders as well as Undead, or would I prefer it if she could retrieve cards from the discard pile when defeating the undead- that's probably going to depend a lot on how many undead and/or outsiders there are out there.

In case anyone's unsure of the sort of site I have in mind, I can happily post a link to one for other games, but I'm not sure whether there are forum rules issues for talking about rival card games?

As an aside. If there ISN'T such a site, is it just because nobody has the time/energy to create/maintain one, or is there a copyright issue with uploading images and/or stats from the cards?

I don't think such a thing exists (at least to my knowledge). Scans of the cards would definitely be a copyright issue. And potentially reproducing all the text would also be an issue, though I couldn't say that for sure.

FYI: I've not seen any forum rules prohibiting comparison of other games. I think basically as long as it applies to the topic of the forum, you aren't trying to sell something, and you aren't being a jerk it is ok to discuss.

This has been a pretty big thing for me as well. I would really like to have a database, so that I could actually look at all of the cards and see exactly what they say. While I feel that my memory is pretty good, but I also end up making mistakes when trying to remember what the cards say.

I have actually started making my own little database for my own use in Excel. I am just copying down card text, without scans. It is just a a little side project for me. I don't even know if I will get it all done.

I'm aware other companies have imposed restrictions like maximum res for images / big logos superimposed over the artwork etc.

Hadn't thought about there being issues with reproducing the full text. Perhaps Erixian's route is the simplest

There is one over on the bgg site that just has the list of cards, but I have repeatedly requested one from Paizo to no effect. To be able to play more than one character after deck 3, you need at least a card list, but Paizo has refused to do it. I don't believe there is anything with all the card text. I really can't believe Paizo hasn't done it. Almost all their other products (except cards, now that I think about it) if you are a subscriber, you get a free PDF of the product (including things like Pawns, Map packs, etc), so I don't know why Paizo is so unwilling to do it for this product.

All of the character sheets from Paizo have a full card list on them. I'm not sure why you're saying Paizo has refused, since it's right there. With boxes to mark the number you have in your deck, no less.

That list can even be converted for separate campaign plays to show cards removed from the game for each individual campaign a group or groups might be playing from the same base game box.

That list only includes boons, not banes, as has been observed time and again on this board.

Adding a PACG portal to the existing PathfinderWiki is high on the agenda for the coming weeks and months. Once we've got that in place, it should just be a matter of filling in all the details. It's not yet clear how much information we can and will be including, but it's our intention to include as much as possible in order to make the wiki the best resource it can be.

Oh, yes, you're quite right! The removal of banes totally went below my radar when I replied, and I apologize.

although to be fair, there is a fairly simple and quite easy method that would require minimal work on your part to track removed cards: write down the cards that are removed as they are removed, then consult the list before each setup to make sure that you are pulling said cards out.

For that matter, with a slightly larger investment of time, you could just sit down and make a spreadsheet of all the basic and elite cards and then just put some sort of mark next to them when you remove them. It's not like you lack access to the cards that you would currently be removing, by any means.

Hawkmoon has created a list that I use, actually. I am sure if you ask nicely that he would let you use it as well. The one that lets you track up to 4 groups is great for me.

Hawkmoon's accessories (including his PDF that can track multiple groups of removed cards so that you can switch between them) are actually available to everyone over on BGG:

Right, I knew they were over there, but not everyone is on BGG, for instance, me. So he just sent them to me. thanks for getting the link, though.

We shouldn't have to go to a third party site to get basic support for the game's replayability. For a company that does as much as Paizo, this is unbelievable.

As to workarounds: obviously, there are plenty of ways to make it work, but a company-provided checklist should be provided. The same logic by which they gave us the character sheets should have provided the card checklist.

There is always going to be extra things from the fanbase. But to accuse Paizo of skimping out on support could not be further from the truth and sad. If it was not for Paizo to begin with we would not have this game as it is. They answer our questions and provide the FAQ and keep it updated. They are working on all the games and RPG material that is on the market and then some that is coming out to the market with in the next year or so. They are BUSY to say the least. So they have every excuse that we can afford them in this case.

The fact that they take the time to come here on these forums and answer questions and the like is a boon for all of us. I enjoy that and will continue to support Paizo and this card game.
Thanks Paizo! :)

I personally often play PACG over google hangouts and seeing as I'm the only one with a copy of the game it presents its own little challenges. In particular:

- I have to manage all 3 players hands, reminding them what they've got, what the rest of us have got and how close they are to death
- Although they try and track the state of their cards, they are constantly verifying their notes with me
- Whenever I flip a card, I have to read the entire thing to them, and then when they inevitably say "eh?" I have to read it again

All in all, a slight ball-ache, so I spent an entire weekend (and I mean entire) writing out the contents of every single card for the sets I had into a spreadsheet. At least for now they can reference that whenever I tell them they flipped another Sage.

Since then we've been working on slapping a web front-end on the spreadsheet, so the guys can use the tool to reference cards and manage their hands. I've so far resisted scanning in images of all the cards for fear of copyright, but reading the comments here makes it sounds like even copying the text could work against us.

We were only planning on using it between us so it's not that big a deal, but it would have been nice to share the love with the community when we eventually get it finished.

as an alternate option, you could always replace basics and elites when you draw them from location decks with non-basics/elites from the box. It's a variant that I use cause it means less paperwork for the 20 or so games that I have running simultaneously at my house.
