One I came up with long ago:
An insane copper dragon--the only thing he regards as valuable is copper. Anything else he sees only as trade goods that some fools want. He's way more powerful than the party, though--the only thing they can do is negotiate. (And such negotiation will involve the surrender of anything made of copper or copper alloys they may be carrying.)

I am so stealing the hoard of stuffed animals for the homebrew I'm doing for my 11 year old daughter and her friends. I wonder what color/type of dragon would find this sort of hoard desireable?
OH! OH! It could be a blanket dragon, like from that adventure time episode!

Oh, and DM under the bridge: I did something similar for a medusa, but it was more a hall of beautiful petrified dwarves. She was a Dwarven Medusa.

When I was in college, I did some dragon hoards that took like 7 pages and were lists of things like perfect twigs (one is actually a wand) a pile of rocks, all the same size and color, but each is a different shape (nothing magical, but neat nonetheless), a fine collector of petrified wood and fossilized amber, and of course the ancient collector of scrolls who's entire hoard was scrolls.

Has anyone seen the show Hoarding Buried Alive? Imagine a dragon who has a Hoard but it is worthless junk but because the dragon had a psychotic break in its past it collects nothing but worthless junk. It has its kobolds bring just anything they can find to add to the hoard.
Of coarse adventurers hear about this dragon and its giant hoard but come to find what it really is. All the Dragons in the area are of coarse...embarrassed.

A hoard of amusing tiny hats. The dragon must wear a new hat each week, and never the same hat twice. However, it never gives up a hat. This dragon has lived a very long time.
That's a lot of hats.
Change hats to shoes and you could name the dragon "Imelda Marcos".

The dragon was a devotee of the theater. His lair contains an elaborate stage on which captive actors were forced to perform for him. He was a harsh critic who ate those who disappointed him.
The stage itself is made of exquisitely crafted woods and can be disassembled and reconfigured to accommodate nearly any setting. The floor sections can be separated into 10-foot squares and transported for resale but their weight and awkwardness make them a challenge to do so.
