Do raised zombies get poison?

Rules Questions

So if a creature has a natural attack that also does poison is raised as a zombie, say a giant wasp, does that attack(s) retain the poison?

I think no. Zombies and skeletons loose all special attacks and special qualities, which should include poison.

Special Attacks: A zombie retains none of the base creature's special attacks.

Skeletons would keep extraordinary abilities which aid in attacks which poisons are often part of.

Poison is still a special attack, which skeletons lose. They would retain the sting, but lose the poison.

Wasps have exoskeletons? I would assume this eliminates them as undead skeletons.

So it retains the sting, gains a slam attack, but no poison. I think. And this makes sense; transforming the OP's example from living (ie naturally creating poison for its sting) to undead (ie infusing it with negative energy to create a controlled subject) would skip the life cycle part of poison creation.

If I were the GM, I'd rule that no, RAW zombie giant wasps do not have a poisonous sting, but they gain the slam attack. And I am excited about giant wasp zombies regardless....

Often times poisons are listed specifically as extraordinary attacks

Here is the line from the giant wasp template. Notice Ex specially listed for extraordinary

Its Natural attack a sting (not special attack)
Melee sting +6 (1d8+6 plus poison)

Poison (Ex) Sting—injury; save Fort DC 18; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Dexterity damage; cure 1 save. The save DC is Constitution-based, and includes a +2 racial bonus.

If you were to go with a skeleton if the GM would say that an exoskeleton counts as a skeleton..... I would say it retains its attack and poison

The save would have to change I think...

As pointed, and I wasn't thinking, about Wasps do not qualify to be skeletons. But you are right that if the poison is listed as an extraordinary ability a skeleton might retain it if you consider it to be an "improvement" of a natural attack.

Whether or not this is the case, I'd still like to home-brew an "exoskeleton" template for undead insects. Now that's scary!
