Tengu in Golarion

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Are there any communities that have a more open acceptance of Tengu in Golarion? The ARG says that they often live in slums and ghettos, often looked down upon by non-humans. Is there a place they might see a bit more love? Or are they expected to stick in tribal lines?

Dark Archive

I think they are more widely accepted in Tian-Sha

The Shackles has a decent Tengu population.

It's considered good luck to have a Tengu aboard ship there!

Arrrr!!!

Hmmm, interesting. Because I was thinking that I would like to play a Tengu, but would realize that may bring ire to me and my party wherever we went.

Well, for that you need to talk to your GM and see how he/she feels about the Tengu, not to mention the rest of your group.

If your playing in the Shackles or the Sodden Lands, they're fairly common.

They also live in the Dragon Empires.

However, a PC Tengu could end up anywhere.

Another place that they might be more accepted is the River Kingdoms.

Granted, that is true. I'm also curious to know more about the Tengu in canon, so I thought I'd ask.

Sczarni

this is where the wiki page can tell you they even have their own nation. Although it doesn't seem much better.

I also remember a reference to their being decent tengu populations in the Land of the Linnorm Kings, largely because of the trading presence of Tians in the region

They probably would be welcome in Kaer Maga.

I don't think there's any race for which that could not be said.

Just stay the hell away from Irrisen.

What's wrong with Irrisen?

Ravens are sacred there, but crows are hated. I don't think we've committed to whether tengu are crow-people or raven-people, or Irrisenis perceptions of them, but I could easily see the ambiguity making people nervous, not knowing whether they should be honored or stoned.

I know the Rite Publishing's Kaidan setting treatment of tengu is deep and detailed, but I don't think its at all canon with Golarian, but if you're looking for more culture, religion and relationships in a tengu community based on authentic Japanese folklore tropes - it might be worth looking at...

Kobold's Midgard setting has tengu called "huginn" in Norse regions, which makes a lot of sense.
