Silver Crusade

Hey guys,

For my lvl 2 sorcerer, i have a scorpion that gives me +4 initiative. at lvl 3, im getting improved familiar so i can get a better one then and later at 5-7. Should i wait on that, or get it now? currently at lvl 3 i plan to use a quasit because theyre pretty sweet. Any advice?

Thanks
Primus

What's your alignment? The sorts of improved familiars that are available seems quite dependant on that, unless your GM is lenient on the ruling for it.

I don't have much advice on what familiar is the best, unfortunately, so I say take something that suits the flavor of your sorcerer and possibly their bloodline. If the familiar is capable of using wands then that's a plus.

True N.

Note that when you change the scorpion out for a quasit, you'll lose the initiative bonus. But otherwise, yes, you could get a, say, fiendish scorpion at 3rd and then a quasit at 7th.

You might also like a mephit. They're small, so they're a bit more hardy, and they have a breath weapon.

Silver Crusade

Yeah. oh fiendish hm. does adding the template make it go up like that? and at lvl 7 im going to get a clockwork familiar cause theyre awesome.

You can't get a quasit at 3rd level. It has a level 7 requirement.

At 3rd level, you can only get one of either fiendish or celestial templates (or I suppose the dire rat familiar, but I've never seen anyone pick it). That makes it a bit harder to kill the familiar.

At 5th level I like the air or earth elementals.

Silver Crusade

really? maybe Hero Lab is bugged, but it said i could. Hm alright maybe ill go with celestial greensting scorpion/scarlet spider

Not necessarily exactly bugged, but Hero Lab can't get in every single restriction possible.

So it is always a good idea to check with the books or SRD to make sure something is possible.

Silver Crusade

hah yeah alright thanks
