Liberty's Edge

First thing I wanted to say: Sorry for derailling the players leaving early thread! I am so sorry. I figured I would play along because eric was a venture captian.

My thoughts on joining the society are mostly positive. The only negative ones I have are just me not having the books and sheets sitting in my hands. That OFTEN provides me with something to work with when trying to understand it. I was afraid that the people outside of the adventure card game would be completely diffrent and very hostile to newcomers. However EVERYONE here has been respectful, rational, welcoming and a joy to talk to. I am very happy with the first meeting I am attending in march. Though I sadly will have to leave at nine or eight o'clock Because it is across town and on a school night. However I am just barely starting. So when I leave it would most likley be much more of a benifit than a detriment because Most people would be higher leveled than me. Though that is yet to be seen. I am going to pick up the base box in september. Though getting rise of the runelords will be up in the air plane because with it being out of print and all.

Oh and I haven't made a PC yet. That is because I would rather wait to see what my table needs.

I'm glad you've found the PFS community welcoming.

What do you mean by the 'base box'? The Core Rulebook is the base rule set for the Pathfinder RPG. Do you mean the Beginner Box? This is not essential; it is a simplified version of the rules.

You don't need the Rise of the Runelords adventure path to play PFS. But if you're set on buying it, it is still widely available.

Liberty's Edge 2/5 *

You need the core rulebook, not the beginner box.

Invest in some dice, pencils a pen (for Chronicle sheets....People who write in pencil on Chronicle sheets are very naughty)

Also invest in a miniature for your character. it wont always be possible to borrow one.

You should only be Buying Rise of the Runelords if you plan on Gming it. If you are not, then I wouldnt b other.

Your table needs a class you enjoy playing, most importantly.

Liberty's Edge

If you haven't yet made a PC, please try to arrange to come to the table at least an hour before game start time, so that one of the other players ( if this can be arranged ) can help you make a new character. In our Pathfinder group, someone is always willing to assist new players in creating Pathfinder-legal characters. Players do not want to waste valuable game time waiting for a new player to make a character during game time, especially if you plan on leaving early. Alternatives might be to use a pre-generated character for your first game, or to create characters of two or three different types in advance.

I will see what I can do. I would actually have to start driving roughly a half hour earlier then. (I don't know how to drive and driving is a scary thought.) I will be picking the beginner box up. Uhhmm, How does one find minatures for figures? (not talking the generics either) I also just found an awesome pen for that!!!! ROTFL.

Curiousity solved!!!

also there are some threads on the boards that have plenty of suggestions about what you might like to buy for starting equipment and helpful uses of common items.

And it's a good idea to come to the game early (send an email to the game organiser if you can) and sort out your character. You can find miniatures online, there is possibly a painting group at your friendly local gaming store (check their website) but ask the gm who is running if they might let you borrow a mini for the game.

Oh, and grab some snacks and a bottle of water too - a game can take 4-5 hours, it's good to be organised.

Liberty's Edge

Dear god no! If you try to make me paint, I will FREAK. I hate painting or anything artsy. I did that but never got an answer. I will bring nonmessy foodstuffs. Maybe even somthing for the entire table. (no not pizza!!!). I always have a bottle of gatorade. I will just be grabbing the advanced players guide, ultimate magic, ultimate campain, animal archive. Stuff that Would help EVERYONE. Though not ultimate combat. I hate having ninjas and samurai and guns.

Snicker you have mentioned the Beginner Box twice. For PFS you need the Core rule book. The Beginner Box is a simplified version of the rules and will likely confused you once you get the hang of PFS. Get the Core Book. Also as others have indicated Rise of The Runelords is not at all out of print. There is an old version (back when Pathfinder was a D&D 3.5 product) that is indeed out of print. But what you want is the updated version (Called The Anniversary Edition) that works with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. It even comes all in one book (in stead of 6).

Liberty's Edge

I have it. I already have the core rulebook. I want the BB so I can play with friends at home. I will grab a copy of the anniversary edition. Wish I could of just bought the newest one and just played that.

Would a hand carved figure be alright? Like one the size of a chess piece. Because I could have someone carve one for me. (not allowed near chisels and saws.)

There aren't requirements on figures; they're intended to be representations for your character and being unique is fine. Some people use coins or other tokens. If you go an alternate route like a carving, be sure the base is appropriately sized (most chess pieces are too big, it should be roughly penny to quarter sized for the base), can stand up, and has a flat bottom without rough or jagged edges (so as to not damage maps)

Liberty's Edge

Heh, cool! I think a hand carved peice would look nice. However, I will just grab a traffic cone and use that.

I used a LEGO figure for a while. Come to think of it, I might dig those guys out again, because LEGOS!

I have kreons. Kreons are WAY better. They have balljoints instead of swivels. Oh and ripping off there arms is a key part for a few transformations. Because they make transformers. I have a rock that looks like a hunk of poop. I will use that because its the size of a penny. Oh and what happens if one stabs the person giving the mission? Just curious My halfling sorcerer with an unknown bloodline is not allowed to have knives. Dunno what bloodline I should go for, Since choices are hard. Never make a halfling angry. Halflings are eye level with human crotches-Wise man

Confusion roll: 43?

Liberty's Edge

Sorry. My grandmother came home with my lifeblood (monster energy drinks)!! I am allowed ONE outburst of caffine per week. Seriously though. Pissing off a halfling is a bad idea if you are human. They will headbutt you in the crotch and take all of your money because if I was that short I would do that to everyone if they insulted me. :D
