The rewards of obedience: beginnings of a guide

Just a small note to those interested, I've recently got the "book of the damned" and the "chronicles of the righteous", sourcebooks for the "demonic/celestial" obedience feats. These feats have a lot of potential for weirdness, so I thought I should take the time to pass through them and indicate the more interesting empyreal/demon lords to follow.

For the moment, I'm just looking for people who might actually have played them. My full commentary should come thursday night/friday.

Scarab Sages

My PFS Tetori is taking the Celestial Obeisance for Falayna at 3rd level for the bonus to Grapple. I'm not going to go Mystery Cultist though, so the boons are never going to come into play. The second boon is great for monks though.

Thanks imbicatus! It's nice to see some folks getting use from them.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Are the boons on the SRD? I couldn't find them.

I'm really interested in this. You have my support, though I've never used them.

Socothbenoth, increases the effectiveness of your enchantments. I can see sorcerers getting a lot of mileage out of that demon lord. Especially Kitsune, and the Serpentine/Rakshasa/Fey bloodlines.

Ghenshau's Ignorance boon is interesting. Do a melee touch attack to impose a WIS penalty of 1d6 + 1 per every 2 HD you possess.

I managed to get my 'Divine Psalmist' built and played a bit with it. Evangelist/Mystery Cultist that put points in perform (oratory) and (sing). Go the summoner route, grab the Leadership domain, buff everything out the wazuu. Her final boon essentially lets you cast Hold Monster on anything within 30 feet of you, that can hear you, and the save DC is result of your Perform check. Her obedience bonus isn't that great, but the boons are, IMO.

Thanks for the input verteidigger.

@petty alchemy: unfortunately, the boons arent in the PRD, since it's not part of core, and very golarion-centric (so not on the pfsrd either). Not on the archives of nethys. You pretty much gotta get the book.

My cleric worshipped Seramadiel, thought I mentioned her in the post, guess not.

Almost finished celestial obediences! Should have something soon. The mechanical quality varies a hell of a lot, and even the best are limited to specific builds (but they are great in those builds).

Grand Lodge

When finished, you should link your findings.

Heck, a comprehensive list of obediences, and boons, would be a godsend in itself.

There is no place that lists them.

Scarab Sages

It is a pain to have to reference my book every time I want to check on an Empyreal lord's obediences, and boons. It would also be helpful to have a the lords Domains and Favored Weapons listed as well for Clerics/Warpriests.

Thanks for the indications. Maybe I could try to get into contact with the archives of nethys folks, they might be willing to put it up. However, I'm not fond of getting too close to infringing copyrights & such. I cant help but think of that as the only reason the archives of nethys dont have them up yet.

The current guide gives a general overview (indicating benefits, if not the specific wording, of each celestial boon). I will try to mark domains & favored weapons soon as well.

So, here is the first draft of my guide. I still havent added favored weapons & such, but I should have time soon.

The path of righteousness

I hope to add some artwork (maybe) later, but for now it's pretty much procedural.

One thing I'm not sure on is Tolc's Obedience. I don't have my book with me so I can't check, but you dip your hands in water and wait for it to evaporate. Are you waiting for it to evaporate from your hands or from the bowls? Because if it is from your hands it's much easier to complete regardless of weather.

It is the water from the bowls. I will indicate that.

I might also put a section on houserules (along the lines of "make this feasible for your players if you can GMs).

Scarab Sages

Also, if you happen to have an Owl companion for any reason (Druid, Ranger, Feather Domain, Nature Oracle, Familiar, or Animal Ally feat), Tanagaar becomes much more attractive, as where ever you are is an area where Owls hunt.

I know this guide is about the obediences, but I feel that their domains should be mentioned. The Empyreal lords do grant some interesting domain combinations and even a domain or two that aren't easily available (if at all) to good aligned characters.... Like the Darkness domain.

They're so weird, you could probably make two guides. A general one, and one for divine classes.

True. But the fact is, the domain information IS available (and already reviewed) so I focused on what we DONT know (IE, obediences).

Still, it's something to consider. Several of these are quite beneficial for clerics.

Wow, great guide so far! I especially like the Arshea section. ;)

Are you still working on this? I'd like to help with the editing if you're willing.

Your guide is great, easy to read and browse through. I hope you can complete it, I was just looking for something about deific obediences! ;)

Necromancers? I don't think it's going to be completed anytime soon.

Sorry for necroing, but your guide is gone now any back ups?

I'm not aware of any backup copies of the guide. The most I can offer you is the searchable index I put together. If there's a certain spell or ability you're looking for this will at least point you in the right direction. Though you'll still have to go some place like Archives of Nethys to look up the specific details. I created it May of last year so it should be fairly comprehensive.
