Do the bloodline abilities of a sorcerer have a "spell level?" They don't do they? Unless a spell-like ability actually duplicates a spell, it doesn't have a "spell-level." Caster level, yes. Spell level, no. right? For instance:
Elemental Ray (Sp): Starting at 1st level, you can unleash an elemental ray as a standard action, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. This ray deals 1d6 points of damage of your energy type + 1 for every two sorcerer levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.
No spell level.

Now that I'm on a proper keyboard, yes. :)
If a character class grants a spell-like ability that is not based on an actual spell, the ability's effective spell level is equal to the highest-level class spell the character can cast, and is cast at the class level the ability is granted.
As for the FAQ that reiterates this rule, you can go to the top-right corner of any page of this site and click "Help/FAQ" then navigate by book.

Alright, here's another one. Do they have "descriptors" if they deal energy damage? Is the ability above considered to have the "fire" descriptor? I'm looking for a hard rules definition and not a "as a GM I would count it as having the fire descriptor."
If another spell or ability protected from other abilities with the "fire descriptor" would this include this ability?

I don't actually have an answer, but...
If another spell or ability protected from other abilities with the "fire descriptor" would this include this ability?
...if another spell or ability exists, that grants "protection from an ability with the [fire] descriptor", then it stands to reason abilities have such descriptors. And it then follows that an ability which doesn't explicitly mentions its descriptor, doesn't have one.

Thanks, guys. I know that it is logical and as a GM I would rule that it does, but I'm looking for the hard rules definition. I don't think it says anywhere if non-spell based spell-like abilities have "descriptors." And the spell or ability that grants "protection from an ability with the [fire] descriptor" is not an official Paizo release. I'm giving advice to someone who is writing a magic item and I think referring to "descriptors" is not the way to go. I should advise him to have it say that it "protects from spell-like abilities that deal energy damage." Anyone agree, or does someone know if there is a ruling on the descriptors thing?
