Why does two handing a weapon make you even weaker?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I just noticed since you add 1.5*str modifier to your weapon when you two hand it compared to when you just one hand it...

If you have 7 str you go from -2 for you bonus to damage with a longsword in one hand, to -3 bonus to damage with a longsword in both hands. I'm confused. Is your swing less powerful because you used two hands to try and support the weight of the weapon?

Quote:
Two-Handed: Two hands are required to use a two-handed melee weapon effectively. Apply 1-1/2 times the character's Strength bonus to damage rolls for melee attacks with such a weapon.

If your strength is below 10, you had your normal strength modifier when using a two handed weapon.

What I want to know is why they balance 2h weapons with 2 weapon fighting and then don't have a feat equivalent for 2H as they do for 2 weapons..

Double Slice (Combat)
Your off-hand weapon while dual-wielding strikes with greater power.
Prerequisite: Dex 15, Two-Weapon Fighting.
Benefit: Add your Strength bonus to damage rolls made with your off-hand weapon.
Normal: You normally add only half of your Strength modifier to damage rolls made with a weapon wielded in your off-hand.

There should be a 'double momentum' feat allowing for x2 str.

Um.. no...

Two-Weapon Fighter should actually have some more STRONGER feats. Why?

Because 2H is just so much more rediculously powerful over a 2W fighter...

There is, sorta. It's a fighter archetype specialising in 2 handed weapons.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There is. It's called "Power Attack."

There's also the fact that Dual Wielding requires a much higher amount of feats to do reliably, has innate penalties, and only works in limited situations (i.e. you cannot charge and attack with both weapons).
