Learning a new weapon?

Rules Questions

sorry if this answer is found like in the books, i check I probably just didn't look in the right spot. But can one learn to use a new weapon, like say just a long bow, without having to take a new feat? If so, how?

Sovereign Court

without taking a feat? Yeah go into a class proficient with the longbow like fighter or find a magical item which gives you proficiency, forgot if bracers of archery do that.

The following is not all inclusive but:

Taking a level in a class with martial weapon proficiency
Taking a martial weapon proficiency (long bow)
Using Bracers of Archery
Using Ioun stone (its a cracked or flawed one I believe)

Can all grant proficiency. So your options are money, feat, or level.

Heirloom Weapon Trait

Be careful with this. I'm not sure if there was an errata that changed it, but IIRC, the feat gives you proficiency with a specific weapon. Not all weapons of a type but a specific weapon. So, in this case a specific bow. That you would have at level 1. That would be non-magical and non-masterwork. In home games you could use masterwork transformation to upgrade it, but I'm not sure if such things are allowed in PFS. And, if you lose that specific bow you don't have general bow proficiency.

So, some things for consideration.

In PFS, you can have masterwork transformation cast on 1 weapon/armor.

One at a time. If you upgrade the item to a magical enhancement, it no longer counts as your one masterwork transformation. So Heirloom Weapon is feasible, with still a small risk of having the item broken or even lost.

Certain race favored class benefits can allow gradual proficiency. I only know of dwarf oracle, kitsune oracle, and hobgoblin rogue, though.
