Bard Battle Dancer

Advice

Are there any variations that don't use scimitar or anything close to this archetype in another class? My player likes the archetype, but doesn't like the scimitar or bards very much.

Oops I mean the dervish dancer?

So what are you looking for?

I guess I mean: you want a non-bard, non-scimitar, dervish dancer? What does that leave?

So you want a decent based fighter? That's pretty much what you're saying, right?

No he wants the dervish dance abilities with a different weapon. I could probably persuade him if he can overlook the name and flavor of the bard

Are you talking about the Dawnflower Dervish or the Dervish Dancer? Because those are two entirely separate archetypes. Dervish Dancer just gets proficiency with Scimitar (and Kukri) but is in no way obligated to use a scimitar, any more than a Half-Orc is obligated to use a Falchion just because he has racial proficiency with it. If you're talking about Dawnflower Dervish, the same principal applies; just because they get Dervish Dancer as a bonus feat at lvl 1 doesn't mean they're obligated to use it. In fact, the general consensus now is that, since the doubled bonuses from Dawnflower's Dervish Dance apply to any and all attacks (not limited to Scimitar), it's better to use either TWF or a heavy Natural Attack build to rack up as many attacks as possible. So Scimitar, in both cases, is merely one of several valid options.

You could allow him to use dervish dance with another weapon if you are the GM, or if prefer, could allow the human feat Martial Versatility to apply to dervish dance so he could dervish dance any heavy blade. Or the agile weapon special ability (+1 equivalent bonus) that lets finessable weapons get dex to damage.

Ok, so RAW dervish dance can only work with scimitar.

Now, if what he really wants is DEX to damage, then all he needs is the agile enchantment on whatever weapon he's using.

As DM you could say 'any light weapons' and the player might be allowed to take dervish dance with a pair of Wakizashi.

Which abilities? The Bardsong abilities? But without being a Bard? Is it Dex to damage he wants? Be an Aldori Swordlord?

I really want to try a Gunslinger 1/Bard (Dervish Dancer) 2-20. Double bonuses, and free improved critical and haste attack with a Pistol. Closest you're going to get to Gun-Fu

Actually, gun-fu is 5 levels of trench fighter (for weapon training in guns) and the rest in Sohei.
