A Haunting at Perdition Point (Limited Recruitment Opened)

Recruitment

A Haunting at Perdition's Point

The small hamlet of Perdition’s Point lies deep within the haunting forest of Cadaverwood. Perdition’s Point manages to survive the troubling woods through their faith and unity. Their militia is only 12 men strong, and with little training, but attacks are few and far between. The biggest problem the villages faces is ghosts and specters that lurk in the shadows. The tavern only houses one bedroom, as there is never more than a single visitor at a time. The nearest main road is nearly 40 miles out, and the next town from there is another 3 miles, making for a full 2 days of travel to leave the hamlet. They make a living through simple farming and husbandry, using the abundance of wood as necessary and surrounding herbs and ingredients for remedies and cooking as they need. Every month a shipment of mundane goods is sent to the hamlet to collect taxes and trade for a portion of the unique wood they harvest. The trees at the heart of the forest have turned a sickly purple, a trait that nobles find most valuable.

Just over a month ago, one of the boys belonging to the Carevin family went missing and was never found. The village was hit hard by the event, and when another child went missing a month later, they decided something had to be done. A town meeting was called.

We've had a lot of changes since this game was started. The GM vanished, people took over, and the plot got remade based on the blurb above. :) We appear to be losing a player. It's been 19 days since they posted, and as the new GM, when he hits 21, I'm going to replace him. So, this thread is being re-opened for interest.

I am looking for 1 player for this adventure, people who applied originally but didn't get picked will be given a slight preference. The way this will work is that I'll keep the submissions open until January 2nd. The current players will vote on a new addition from the submissions that are confirmed from this point on. As GM, I'll get one vote, and also be tie breaker.

Character Creation
--------------------------------------------------
You will be playing as one of the residents of Perdition’s Point investigating the disappearance of the children.

Races - Core and Featured races accepted, Uncommon will be considered with a good backstory. Monster PCs will be considered, but require prior approval, and must be effective level 2 or less. Custom ARG races not allowed (Sorry).

Level - Level 2.

Classes - Any class except Gunslinger. Any archetype except Synthesist Summoner.

Abilities - 20 point buy-in OR 4d6 roll. You may roll the 4d6 first, and if you don't like it, drop back to the 20 point buy.

Traits - 2 Traits OR 3 Traits and 1 Flaw. Traits must make sense within your background info. (i.e. no Desert Nomad trait if you’ve been living in the hamlet your whole life)

Alignment - No evil alignment

Wealth - 1,000 gp (Standard WBL for level 2)

Health - Max at first level, 1/2HD + 1 every level after

Background - I expect a nice background, it doesn’t have to be a page long, but something that paints a picture of who you are and why you are in the hamlet. If you are a temporary resident or blacksmith’s daughter or maybe a budding teen hoping to join the militia etc. Feel free to use this opportunity to create establishments or families that might fill the hamlet. You may also be from a neighboring city. The nearest city to Perdition is Hamsberg, which is 'the big city' for the local area. Hamsberg's a small city, but it has a Baron, and is where most trappers, lumberjacks, farmers, and so forth sell their produce. Alternately you may be from a town or village within 50 miles. If you are from a nearby village/town, you'll need to provide a paragraph fleshing out that town.

The game, and the original recruitment thread, are HERE. Please post in this thread if interested, and then proceed to the original Recruitment thread to ask questions and submit characters. I'd like to keep all the recruitment in the original thread, but also want to use a new thread to let people know it's re-opened.

Gameplay
---------------------------------------------------
Timing - I am a professional in the south. I check the forums several times a day and respond fairly quickly. I expect players to be able to post once a day. If you will have a busy weekend or be unable to post for a while, please let me know so I don’t end up replacing you. If you are absent for several weeks without any warning, you will be replaced. Even if you do not feel you are in the spotlight or have much to contribute, at least make a post reflecting your character's thoughts. “Krunk bored…”

Maps - I will provide links to a grid-lined battle maps to allow for better tactics and planning. After every round, I will provide an updated map.

Combat - Combat initiative will be rolled each round

Rolls and DM-PC’ing Rolls should be provided within the post that you declared your actions. If you state you are making a perception check, go ahead and make the roll. In describing new situations, I may provide a spoiler with the skill and DC that you can roll for to read. For example...

Perception DC 20:
In this way, gameplay can continue flowing. If no input is made on your character’s part, I will DM-PC as necessary to get by - in combat this will be basic attacks, and in dialogue this will be watching silently from the back. If a roll is forgotten for a specified action that is necessary to continue, I will go ahead and make the roll for you (perhaps you forgot to roll damage for your attack and you’re the last person to act this round).

Descriptions - Please provide a description of your character, and a picture link URL if you have one. It helps everyone gain better immersion.

The Exchange

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 3) = 1715
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 5) = 1816
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 3) = 1413
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 5) = 1412
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 4) = 109
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 5) = 1513

For which group are you recruiting, and what sort of character would best fit the vacancy?

Group 1.

Eva - Gnome Alchemist
Lineera - Drow Oracle
Elena - Human Cleric
Mahb - Human Witch

They are very low on melee and support, they have all magical right now.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I'd be interested in trying out a PbP. I'll post a character soon.

I'm thinking maybe a human Polarm-Master Fighter.

Combat Reflexes
Combat Expertise
Improved Trip
Agile Maneuvers

His job is to keep people away from all the casters, right? Just seems a good fit.

I suppose a race-to-zero super destructive barbarian would do just as well, just differently.

Sounds like a fine build. When you're done with it, submit it on the original recruitment thread (link in the first post of this one).

ALERT!

There is a typo above. It should say '4d6 Drop Lowest' under the character creation guidelines. I copy/pasted it from the original GMs stuff and apparently there was a typo. My apologies to anyone who was confused.

<Grrr.> I don't have an automated character builder, so I was building the character by hand in a browser window. A window I accidentally closed.

I'll start over shortly. Just a little frustrated with myself right now. I rolled the dice and did a preview. I'm going to use the 20 point build instead. It wasn't pretty.

I've got five people so far with interest. I'm going to move the deadline up to Dec 31st, Midnight. If you're interested, get your interest in before then. Characters must be submitted before the end of the 2nd.

If you've put in interest, but not yet made a character, this doesn't affect you, you've still got until the end of the second to submit the character.

If you haven't put in interest, you have until the ball drops in Times Square to get in interest.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 1) = 11 =10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 2) = 8 =7
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 2) = 10 =9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 5) = 8 =7
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) = 9 =11

Ye gods!!! Can I have a reroll?
The dice roller hates me.

I found my old char but he's a barbarian going alchemist. Not sure if the old stats for him are ok. He had a higher than average roll then.

If he was in the original recruitment thread, you can use him as is, just give me a link to him.

If not, you can also do a 20pt buy instead of rolling.

Also, you missed rolling the 6th stat. If that one comes up a 6, you can reroll all 6 stats. That's actually happened a couple of times.

Sovereign Court

4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 2) = 11=9

Smartphone laughs.

Oh well, it was worth a chance. :)

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 5) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 3) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 1) = 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 1) = 11

Hi Dragon,
Please check the core recruiting thread and indicate rolls or 20pt buy there. Link is in first post. Welcome.

Dark Archive

I want to post interest! And dice rolls!
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 3) = 15-3=12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 6) = 20-5=15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 4) = 7-1=6
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 3) = 9-1=8
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 4) = 17-4=14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1, 2) = 6-1=5

Or maybe just a point buy...
-2 point buy total, Is my math right on that?

Edit: I haver moved my interest over to the other thread.

Thanguron, please move to main thread, thanks.

I did roll. Not good!

Sovereign Court

I humbly submit the following:
Theorn Sliverip Barbarian/Scout

Here's my second attempt into getting into this game.:P
Please point me the right direction if I go over to Phrase 2.

@nightdeath - You can proceed to phase 2 now.

Damage on Great Axe appears to be off. Remember the 1.5 str multiplier for two-handed weapons.

Drow Blooded and Adaptability are intermixed in the racial section

Edited Racial Traits.

As for Great Axe
Str= +3
1.5 Multiplier is well 4
IN a rage Str is +5
1.5 Multiplier is 7.

Correct?

You're good, sorry. I keep forgetting, we houserule locally to round normally, not down. So I'm used to seeing +3 -> +5 and +5 -> +8. What you've got is correct RAW.

Sovereign Court

Phew for a moment I thought I got it wrong.
Nice houserule though, Kills mobs faster.

Kills PCs faster too. Applies across the board.

What it really does is keep the OCD Math Degree GM from going back and forth all the time from one char to the next.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Should I adjust Cathran's stats as well, then? :P

Nah, we're using RAW since it's PBP, I'll alert people if I implement a houserule. :) I have an MST in math, so rounding down annoys me, as it's not how you round normally. :)

Unless your Bill Gates, mdt. According to him, on a .5 you round up one time, and then down the next.

True True. :P

I just need to make sure I hit faster then.

LOL

Granted, it's not totally unreasonable in certain specific financial circumstances.

I have code I wrote that fixes round off issues by adding pennies or subtracting them from line items to make the invoice totals match.

And recruitment is officially closed down as of the ball dropping in New York!

A HUGE thanks to everyone who has applied, if you're reading this, it's too late for you, you shall hold your manhood cheap on every New Years day that you were not among the fortunate few who applied for this game!

If you did note interest prior to this time, you still have 2 days to complete your submission and get it in before final decisions are made, but I have to tell you, you have some seriously stiff competition!
