How to avoid food poison / magical poison as a martial

Advice

My character has reason to believe some other player characters in the campaign are likely to poison me through a magical or non-magical poison.

0 level spells like detect poison or detect magic would likely save my character, but he is martial and cannot obtain them.

I cannot seem to find any magic items that would allow a non-martial character to cast these on his food before eating.

Does anyone know of a way I can do this that doesn't require UMD?

edit: Clarification that I'm up against player characters.

Scarab Sages

Can you hire somebody who can do that? Do you have slight of hand as a skill and can switch food with someone else? Get something that can negate magic in an area.

The problem is my character is a fighter with a Cha of 8. Anyone I hire they could very easily convince to be on their side.

Switching food with someone else may work if I put enough ranks in it.

Negate magic in an area wont work against normal poisons and would be both expensive and noticeable.

There is a noble's pillbox or some similar name, magic item which will let you detect poison.

Ooh I found something for poison

Can anyone think of any other indirect ways they may attempt to assassinate me?

Thanks Thornborn, that one is way useful since it can also detect disease!

1. Don't eat with them
2. Buy food at random from street vendors...eat it immediately
3. Buy a Ring of Sustenance
4. Wait until everyone is asleep...you only need 2 hrs sleep with the Ring...cut off their heads and put them on pikes

It's a skulls and Shackles campaign.

The previous captain died and my character self promoted himself and may or may not have started a power struggle in doing so.

I like the ring of sustenance idea except for the killing part because I need my away crew.

I found one for magic

Talk to your DM and work this out, out of character.

PvP is not something that is good for Pathfinder. It's probably the worst thing possible. The DM (IMO) needs to make sure that everyone understand PvP is not allowed and if there is something in game that makes two players angry at one another to the point of wanting to attack one another in game this is a serious problem. Resolving it in game will not make people happy. This needs to addressed out of the game.
