Any way for a Cleric to gain access to a specific Arcane spell...

Advice

I have a low Charisma Dwarven Cleric who would very much like to be able to gain access to the Wizard/Sorcerer spell Suffocate without having to take the Murder Domain. Can it be done RAW?

Make a staff, put Suffocate on it with a Cleric spell of equal or higher level in the staff so you can recharge it.

Hm. I was hoping for an option that would allow it to be metamagic-able...

He's a herald of the Old Ones and a Theologian whom has taken the Madness Domain. I was really hoping not to go base Cleric to add Murder just for that one spell, even if it would ultimately be his signature spell.

the CRB says:

Spell Trigger: Spell trigger activation is similar to spell
completion, but it’s even simpler. No gestures or spell
finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting
that an appropriate character would know, and a single word
that must be spoken. Spell trigger items can be used by anyone
whose class can cast the corresponding spell.

so if you cannot cast it (have it on your spell list, you won't be able to use the staff

Improved Eldritch Heritage: Arcane can grab it with the New Arcana ability but you may not have the Charisma for it.

Not with a 5, no. And the low charisma is a specific part of the character concept.

Ah, well. Back to the drawing board. Thanks all.

Ask your DM if you can substitute Suffocate for the domain spell on Madness's list, perhaps? Plenty of crazy people get their choke on (Vader, Xykon, McMurphy...)

Well, he's crazy because he was the slave of Aboleths for a decade or two and when he escaped his first sight of the stars in the heavens broke him completely. He is technically a Cleric of the Old Ones but serves more as a herald of the doom we are all facing than any devout worshipper. I intend for him to use a lot of spells which mimic the void of space (like Blindness/Deafness) and Suffocation seemed like an ideal fit.

I suspect my GM will allow it, but I was hoping to find a 'legal' way to accomplish the build so that it could be passed along to others.

For a home game I would do as Bizbag suggested and ask your GM if you can replace your 5th level and 9th level domain spells with suffocation and mass suffucation respectively.

A herald of the doom that people are facing sounds pretty spot on for a worshipper of the Old Ones, to be fair, especially if focused on Azathoth more so than the other Old Ones.

As far as how to add the spell, got nothing that keeps your character as a cleric, short of asking your GM to put it there. If you're willing to consider playing a witch, they also gain access to Suffocate and Mass Suffocate, and they get a patron, so that seems thematic. The Insanity patron seems particularly fitting, although there are a few others that can be good for the Old Ones. I'm guessing that the cleric part is non-negotiable, though.

A herald yes, but more like a muttering defeated 'we're all doomed anyway' sort who's only pleasant to be around when he's well and truly drunk than someone calling for the worship of or subjugation to the Old Ones.

And yeah, the original inspiration for the mechanical concept began with a Dwarf making superb use of the Visions of Madness Domain power. Ah well.

UMD.

Take 5 levels of Agent of the Grave and you can add up to your Int mod in Sorcerer/Wizard Necromancy spells to your class list.

Might be an undesirable path to take though. Lose one level of your casting and most of the abilities are only really helpful if you're a Necromancer (of the Raise the Dead sort).

Is changing your class to Witch an option?
