Where do I go to file a complaint against a web admin who is deleting my posts that DO NOT violate messageboard rules?

My posts simply state my newly found negative feelings towards Paizo in a tactful way. In no way is any poor language or insults used. This admin has gone so far as to block me from being able to post on the thread without any warning as to why I am being blocked.

This is a misuse of admin abilities simply because I don't agree with something. If I didn't know any better, i'd say he is moderating this forum as if this were China.

I believe an email to customer.service@paizo.com might be the best method.

Alternatively you could try webmaster@paizo.com, but I'm not sure if that address actually exists (many forums employ such an email address, though).

It's not piracy if i'm letting them borrow something I have, which is a means of them spending no money.

Regardless, there was no warning that said, "this posting is in violation of" such and such. Simply deleted and blocked from posting.

Thanks Are.

Paizo staff has never handed out such warnings.

And this is where you lose your credibility. For example, go to Chris Lambert (one of the admins) and look at posts he has made. Most of them saying he has deleted such and such post for such and such reason.

Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by "warning". I thought you meant like a PM or something directed at you saying "don't do this or that again or X will happen". I don't qualify those posts as a "warning", more as an "announcement".

Also Chris is a she. ;)

Ah, my mistake, I don't come across very many female Chris'.

Simply deleted and blocked from posting...after repeating pretty much the same post 4 or 5 times, and spreading to 2 new threads as part of that?

I'm sure they simply got tired of cleaning up your mess, and blocked it.

That's not the most obvious interpretation of your original statement.

Especially after the first deleted post admins mentioned not to discuss file sharing on the website. Posting history does get read into possibly ambiguous statements.

Per the messageboard rules, we do not allow the advocation of illegal activities on our website. Posts were removed with a reason why—proceeding to spam additional threads that were not relevant to the topic of discussion is also against our policies, and they were removed as well. If you wish to discuss our moderation policies further, you are welcome to send an email to webmaster@paizo.com.

ACTUALLY Liz, the only post removed with an explanation of why was my original post which mentioned the use of torrents. None of my following post mentioned anything about using torrents, yet were deleted WITHOUT an explanation. So you are wrong.

Second, I see continous post deleted for people calling others "trolls", but yet I still Patrick Harris' post still in this thread. I wonder why that is?

Due to no explanation of what the violation was...and yes, spread to another thread because of being blocked from the original one, thought that was self explanatory, apparently not.

That's called spamming, and is also against forum rules.

And I had actually deleted the second thread shortly after because I forgot I already posted in new one.

It's spamming if you post the same thing over and over again so there is more than one in the same thread or multiple threads, which I already explained I deleted the 2nd one after realzing I reposted it. So no, there was no spamming so no violation.

Methinks your definition does not match the one used by the staff.

Unfortunately it's therefore not your definition that decides whether or not you're in violation.

At least you now know why your posts were deleted. Paizo don't generally go into inordinate detail about the reasons - most people don't seem to get too upset about that and if they do, there's this forum (or the webmaster email) to clarify.

Which is why I created this post so I could get a better contact to the admins since they were just deleting without explanation.

Unlike a lot of people, I don't sit back and just accept things that happen without explanation. I view that as letting those in power run unchecked in they aren't questioned for doing things without reason. Which unfortunately is what I view as one of the biggest problems with our country, is we the people aren't questioning those in power as much as we should be. But that's a whole different conversation for different place and time.

One that's for the most part irrelevant here, since this is Paizo's property and they pretty much have the right to do whatever they want here. There's no contract or constitution guaranteeing any sort of "right" to speak or behave as you will here.

Yeah. The system is working as it should.

Well please show me the one used by the staff then.

The only place that I found that shows any semblence of what the exact rules are is in the FAQ. Which states nothing of what their definition of spam is.

Until they show what their defintion of spam is, then there is only one definition being given at them moment.

They don't have a strict, legalistic code that guides their moderation practises. It's more a "you'll know it when you see it" thing.

A couple of the common things that trip people up are:

1. mentioning copyright circumvention (in any form) - you don't have to actively advocate it to have your post deleted

2. quoting a post which is subsequently deleted - they generally try and delete all replies to an objectionable post as well

The "don't be a jerk" rule is both the most important and the most obviously subjective. Strangely, jerks don't seem to consider themselves jerks. (I'm not saying this was what triggered your posts' deletions - I didn't see them).

Language like that suggests, you're putting up file sharing links to commercial IP in your posts. (Torrents to download the Paizo books definitely qualify) You're not getting any sympathy from either Customer Service or the Webmaster in that case. It doesn't matter why you do something that's clearly forbidden in messageboard policy, it's forbidden and that's that.

You really are going to have to be careful in this area. The ultimate penalty is the revocation of the account AND the rights to download the digital media you've purchased.

And that's fine, I have no issues with what they have posted or am questioning that. My last post was nothing more than a rebuttal to Orthos trying to say what I was doing was spam and against forum rules without being able to show what Paizos definition of spam was.

Actually, the problem with any western society (to varying degrees) is that people always look for the fault in others instead of thinking about what they could have done wrong first.

Considering Liz stated that what you did was SPAM the other threads I think looking for another definition is a bit on the futile and unneeded side, don't you?

As someone who has had more than a couple posts disappear (usually for hopping into a conversation and quoting someone whose post gets deleted), it's really not a big deal; I honestly can't understand why you are as irate about it as you are.

Bottom line is this is Paizo's forum and they can delete whatever posts they want to delete, with or without reason. If you really have a problem with that might I suggest you look into creating your own forum and you can create your own set of rules. Not trying to be snarky, but really, at it's root, the situation does have only the two options: accept the rules of the forum and be prepared to occasionally have a comment disappear (and no, you will not always get a reason) or reject the rules and be prepared for the consequences of your actions.

This is 100% accurate. We are guests in their homes, this virtual communication tool. If they feel that someone has said something inappropriate or offensive, they can take steps. That is the price of admission here.

Skyshark, I recommend taking a deep breath and trying to calm down a bit. Paizo does a pretty amazing job moderating the message boards. If one of the moderators deleted one or more of your posts, I'm very confident they were justified.

Your best bet is to try to understand what you did 'wrong' and, you know, just don't do it again :)

Looking at all the ways Paizo has actually been lenient about this can add some perspective too.

I mean, come on. Paizo isn't the RIAA here, even when they're within rights to take harsher action. The least one can do is not poop in their yard.

I've had one experience (that I can recall anyway) of Paizo moderating my comments and my experience has lead me to believe that they are very fair, bearing in mind we are using their boards to talk to each other. I imagine it keeps them very busy though!

Absolutely correct.

One day they'll delete your messageboard posts.

And then the next day, they are at your house taking your guns (or comic books) away, and forcibly converting you to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

It's obvious here that Skyshark has identified a true threat to our freedoms!
