Justice Ironbriar : Clarification please.

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Just to be sure there is no misprint.

"Before the encounter, choose a character at your location; that character summoned and encounters a random monster"

If you are alone you have to choose yourself to encounter the monster. Text is "choose a character", not "choose another character".

Second Line "If there are no other character at your location, the difficulty to defeat JI is increased by 1d4."

No mention of "instead" or "alternatively" so If you are alone you encounter a random monster AND the check to defeat Justice is increased by 1d4.

Is that right ?

PS : I am not asking for interpretation or advice, I am enquiring an official validation.

Liberty's Edge

The card seems quite cut and dry, but you probably won't listen to anyone besides Vic or Mike....so have a good day.

There is no misprint.

Thanks Mike :)

Am I the only one that finds this funny? Also nice comeback TClifford.

Well, Nathaniel was polite about it. Sure makes you think twice about the normal tactic (at least the way we play) of sending one character per site. An interesting curve....

The thing to remember is that he only has one check to pass to defeat him unlike pretty much every other Villain since AP1 so having to defeat a random monster isn't that huge of a deal since you could easily end up with an 8 Combat Check monster. I drew the Hill Giant to end the scenario, but there were 4 people (including Lem and Val plus Harsk at another location so 3d4+4) there so it wasn't a huge deal.

The only thing that could happen, is that since you choose the character first, it could be a satyr, etc, that you aren't expecting. Or a werewolf with a Blessing of the gods up. If your team isn't sporting a large number of blessings to combat, the turn could end up interesting.

In our game Merisiel went up against the judge, and simply evaded the monster. Then she easily smoked the Judge with a crossbow. This was not a very difficult scenario, I think they did it on purpose as a respite especially after the difficult haunt based scenario.
