Golem Manual Used for Variant Golems in PFS?

As of right now, golem manuals are legal purchases and you add the golem to your item inventory sheet upon creation (I assume this follows the "one active companion at a time" limit?).

So, another question that follows is: Can a flesh Golem Manual also be used to craft the unholy and electrified variants presented in Classic Monsters Revisited Classic Horrors Revisited?

I ask because I'm not aware of any "legal monsters" list for PFS, and I've even seen the occasional monster from 3rd party books (Tome of Horrors) used in PFS scenarios.

For the sake of sanity, I should probably abandon this character concept right now, but I kinda' want to know anyway...

Sorry, meant Classic Horrors Revisited, not Monsters.

Warhaven,

If you take a look at the thread you've linked to, you'll see that Mike Brock basically told the GM to STRONGLY encourage the player NOT to buy the item. They are technically not banned, but circumvent the rule banning "item creation" feats; i.e. they circumvent the spirit of the rule. They also introduce a creature to the game that would be incredibly time-consuming to adjudicate and at lower PC levels be used to one shot scenarios. This generally has the effect of making the game un-fun for others, so it is something that GMs (as well as the VOs) try to discourage.

As to your question on using the material from Classic Horrors Revisited, look at the list of approved material on the Additional Resources page, and you'll see they are not included and are therefore not legal in PFS.

I am not sure if you noticed Warhaven, but activated golems vanish after activation in a scenario. They do not transfer between scenario's. They are 1 time use in PFS unless something was changed that I am unaware of.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I don't know about that Malag. The specific thread says to add the item created by the book to your character item sheet. It would seem you get to keep the golem. I would agree with Warhaven and count it as the one active companion at a time. I personally would love to have a golem as a companion. Wizards built the things for a reason. We have no physical capabilities in combat! Quick build a golem. Huzzah!

I would really disagree. Mike answered to the topic starter about items gained from a rod of wonder. I am 95% sure that you do not keep the golem permanently. This question was already asked in older topics.

If this were truly possible, I'd create a hound flesh golem for my necromancer and call it a day! (Won't be affordable till higher levels, but a plan it is!)

If you could add a link to those posts I would appreciate it. It looks to me as if the golem manual only helps create the golem, the golem is not activated per se. The character still has to buy the raw materials to construct the golem and either pay for a wizard to cast fabricate or cast it himself. Note that this does not go against the raw of fabricate because the body of the golem is a statue, not a creature, until it is animated. This entire process is ungainly, but does not break the rules. I would prefer to just be able to buy a golem, but until that is specifically made legal this process should work. As the golem manual is destroyed in the creation of the golem, it fulfills its purpose as a one use item. If my understanding is incorrect, please post a link to the ruling. I would be grateful for an official confirmation or denial.

I think I'll take my own advice and not pursue the character. I'm not terribly keen on bringing a binder of supporting arguments just to play a character, as attractive as the concept might sound. I'll save the lightning caster + flesh golem character for another game.

I don't see Bestiary listed in the AR as part of core assumption, so I have to wonder if Bag of Tricks is not allowed, then, since the Bestiary entry only mentions what's legal for animal companions, polymorph spells, and at the end of the resource document, what oozes can be used with the bottled ooze discovery.

And thanks for responding, everyone.

Nevermind. hah. I'm over analyzing and being intentionally dense, here. :P
