Earthbreaker and Klar

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I am tired of sifting through old posts (2008) with 3.5 rules on this and the more recent rules which are not answering my question.

I understand the rules now on using the Thunder and Fang feat.

The question I am having a hard time finding is what happens (when equipped with a Klar and Eearthbreaker) when you swing the earthbreaker two handed?

There are rules for bucklers and two-handed weapons but not in regards to this (because the Klar is treated as a Light weapon). Which leads me to believe that if in the middle of fighting with two weapons, aka Thunder and Fang, that if you wish to switch to two-handed with the earthbreaker then you have to Free action drop the Klar to do so.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Yes it would be a free action to adjust your grips on any weapon (including dropping it), but picking up the klar is not

Klar

Price 12 gp

Shield Bonus +1

The traditional form of this tribal weapon is a short blade bound to the skull of a large horned lizard, but a skilled smith can craft one entirely out of metal. A traditional klar counts as a light wooden shield with armor spikes; a metal klar counts as a light steel shield with armor spikes.

Emphasis mine

Ready or Drop a Shield

Strapping a shield to your arm to gain its shield bonus to your AC, or unstrapping and dropping a shield so you can use your shield hand for another purpose, requires a move action. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you can ready or drop a shield as a free action combined with a regular move.

Dropping a carried (but not worn) shield is a free action.

Emphasis mine.

If you are wearing the klar so that you can use it (as a shield and/or weapon), you must spend a move action to drop it if you wanted to use the earthbreaker in two hands. Switching from a one- to two-handed grip is a free action.

Actually, the klar counts as a shield, so dropping it is probably a move action (unless you have the equipment trick feat).

Ah, my bad. I forgot to include "as a fighter" in my description so the +1 BAB for Free action would be implied. Thanks for the help. At least I know I am not totally crazy. :/

It's only a free action when combined with a regular move. Say you have a BaB of +6 so you have two iterative attacks with a full-attack; you would NOT be able to drop the klar and take two attacks with the earthbreaker because you must spend a move action dropping the klar or spend a move action moving up to your speed while dropping the klar.
