Gym is hard

Just woke up from my legs feeling like they are on fire.
Went to the gym yesterday for the first time, excersized for about an hour (they gave me a training program) and came back home tired but ok.
Now i can't move without pain. Hope it gets better.

The next day is the worst, it gets better. Good luck with new good habits!

Yep. My dislike of Thursdays has a lot to do with the seven hours of running up and down stairs at work on Wednesdays.

I hear ya - I've recently made a crap load of changes to diet and exercise and range between loving it wondering why I didn't do this earlier and hating life and the things I am 'forced' to eat when all I want is a greasy burger and a huge bucket of cola.

Bacon dripping with fat, fried eggs, fried mushrooms, and a large bowl of pasta would be my heart-attack inducer of choice.

Fry the eggs and mushrooms in virgin olive oil and its not so bad... regretably the bacon has to stay off the list.

A bucket of fries, a big bacon hamburger with onions inside and a bucket of cola for me please..

just remember that the best way to make the pain go away is to go back and do it again...and again...and again until your body gets acclimated to the extra work. I find this typically takes about 2 weeks depending on your level of fitness beforehand.

I guess what I am trying to say is not to be discouraged by the pain, it is normal and will pass as you body gets used to the extra work (so long as you continue to work out regularly).

The only thing on those lists I'm currently banned from consuming is the cola, and I want caffeine SO BAD, but doctor says no if I want to avoid fighting insomnia again.

I don't even "go" to the gym anymore. I have a stationary bike and 30 pound dumbbell in front of my TV, so I work out for an hour and a half while watching stuff on Netflix. I'm about halfway through Season 3 of The Walking Dead, and then I've got 7 seasons of The X-Files waiting for me after that. Way more comfortable, entertaining, and faster than actually "going" to the gym.

I've wanted to do that but sadly our treadmill is in the basement and my parents aren't interested in relocating it upstairs.

I generally instead go walking around our (very hilly - it's eastern Tennessee) neighborhood for an hour or two when I can.

It gets better Hama.

Last march I joined a fight gym. They have us doing an insane amount of cardio, kicking, punching, stretching. It hurt...it hurt bad!

Keep at it and for the first few weeks go even when you are sore. Everything that is sore is just muscle that is transforming into stronger muscle. (at least that's how I look at it)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Add some Bananas to your diet as well. The potassium helps with the ache. Something about helping to dissolve the lactic acid buildup in the muscles.

It goes away eventually. I remember a year ago when I started back up I was in some pain early on. I remember one day I was on the couch watching TV and my GF was in her office on the PC. It literally hurt to pick up the remote to change the channel. Every time I did I would groan out loudly as I lifted the remote. My GF thought it was comical but I wasn't exaggerating I hit the gym way too hard early on :)

Remember to always cool down and do some strechts afther the workout it helps with the "next day pain".

I went climbing on wednesday for only the second time this year.

My arms are fine, but I'm still feeling it in my stomach from trying to climb the inverted ladder.

My return to fitness routine is pretty small scale.
Run 20min a night on the treadmill and ride the 3km to the station each day.
At least it was until someobe stole my bike :'(

I have 1 hour set at my gym.

Animal drills, stretch, Circuit training with bags, burpies, rope, sledge hammer.

Followed by speed kicking drills

60 seconds kicking left left
60 seconds right
40 seconds left
40 right
20 left
20 right
10 left
10 right

then on to stomach drills, sit ups, crunches, pushups.

Then I go home and die...

Eventually, NOT working out will feel bad.

Went for the second time. Everything hurts way way less. Except for my upper belly muscles. They are so tight i constantly feel like I am going to throw up.
