New Chartered Company - Path Forgers

Pathfinder Online

Hello, my name is Vearten and I'm the proud Guild Master of the Path Forgers. My goal is to quickly and efficiently go out into the wilderness and locate various interests (be it resources, dungeons, escalation groups, bandit hideouts, and more) and bringing that information back to the public. Some information we give out freely, while more valuable info is sold to the highest bidder.

Of course the reason of this game and this guild is player interaction, as my guild moves further into the wilderness we will uncover many things others covet, we can then share that information with the necessary parties and even assist with certain objectives (such as escort, defend, or attack). Eventually I'd like to see the guild grow into multiple guilds working together at different areas of the map gathering information and sharing it with the public.

The guild will operate under Expeditions funded by whoever we're chartered with. The settlement that charters us will help provide food, supplies, weapons, and armor. In return we give the settlement a piece of mind that the surrounding area is surveyed and threats are identified and can then be dealt with immediately instead of waiting for "them" to strike.

Here is how I intend the guild to play out in the beginning of the game.
We start the game chartered to a NPC settlement and work together with a potential settlement to explore the wilderness looking for an acceptable hex for the settlement to plant its roots. Next we will recharter (if possible) with the settlement we assisted. This will give us a powerful backer for our upcoming expeditions.
During the first two weeks the guild will stockpile resources, it will not be until a well organized group is ready to start a settlement that we will start exploring the outward hexes. This will indeed put us behind other groups of expansion but in the long-run I believe this will give us a good leg to stand on once we head out.

The guild will be run by a meritocracy and will be of true neutral alignment. The guild will have basic to Intermediate role-play.

The guild will be split into specialized divisions that will work together to accomplish tasks. These will be the first two divisions:
*Survey Corps - In charge of finding targets of interests and tracking targets.
*Battle Corps - In charge of defending/eliminating the targets that the Survey Corps locate.

More information will be posted on the guild website at http://pathforger.guildlaunch.com/ The Website is currently a work in progress but should have most of the necessary content required for the site to give you the tools to be an effective member of the guild by the end of October of 2013.

Please post any interest and feedback in this thread. I will post when the website is ready to receive applications to join.

Welcome, Vearten. I'm glad to see your official recruitment thread.

I've added your Guild to the Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list. If you have a brief description you'd like to appear there to let people know about your guild while they're browsing that list, just PM me or post a clear request here.

Also, The Seventh Veil welcomes you to the community, and extends an offer of Diplomatic Outreach. It actually sounds like your Company might be a very good fit with us, given your focus on knowledge acquisition.

Goblin Squad Member

Interesting idea for a new company; glad to see the amount of diversity different players are approaching the game with. :)

Good luck to you in recruiting for and expanding this company. I hope to see you in game. :)

A cordial welcome to you from Pax Aeternum. We would invite you to consider opening diplomatic links with us at your earliest convenience. You may do this by PM'ing myself or registering on our forums Pax Gaming and joining the growing number of diplomatic ambassadors that come to us. Alternatively we are happy to come to your forums and establish a diplomatic presence if you prefer

Today I will be going over the basic structure of the guild

Path Forgers has several ranks and jobs within it. This article will briefly explain these roles to better prepare its members to progress their characters in ways that will assist them in fulfilling their roles.

The guild's leadership is split into two parties, the council and the court. council members work alongside the guild master to make decisions for the guild. The role of the court is too keep the council from passing decisions that are unconstitutional or just bad for the guild as a whole. (The guild master simply works as another council member during decisions and as such does not have the power to veto any decisions made by votes)

Below the council and court are the Directors. The guild is split into 3 divisions: Survey Corps, Skirmish Corps, and the Supply Corps. each corps has a director who has absolute control over it.

Below is a short description of each corps and what players are expected to be able to do in each.

SURVEY CORPS
This corps will be the major driving force of the guild's operations. The Survey Corps members are who search and find targets of interests such as harvesting locations, dungeons, and escalation groups.

*Good Eyes (You must be able to locate targets quickly)
*Perception Oriented Skills (Finding targets is your major role)
*Ability to Cooperate (A group spread out evenly is more efficient than a mob)

SKIRMISH CORPS
This corps will protect the Survey Corps, eliminate targets, and defend harvest operations where applicable.

*Quick Reaction Time (Must be able to act at a moment's notice)
*Battle Oriented Skills/Feats (Fighting will be your major role)
*Ability To Cooperate (Working together helps reduce number of casualties)

SUPPLY CORPS
The backbone of the guild, the Supply Corps keeps the other corps' gear and consumables repaired and stocked on missions.

*Knowledge Of Items (You'll need to know what to craft for each corps)
*Crafting Oriented Skills (Providing items is your major role)
*Ability To Cooperate (Each member providing different items is more efficient than everyone providing the same item)

Under the Directors are Captains, they lead squads of the lowest ranking members and are responsible for the safety of their squad.

The lowest ranking members are cadets, they make up the majority of the guild and are what most members start out as.

Greetings, Vearten. Though you choose to remain neutral in the struggles of Good vs. Evil, we of The Empyrean Order recognize the good that your services provide and find your goals in line with positive growth of the community. We would also be interested in diplomatic links if you have interest in future collaboration or business dealings. We wish you the best of luck in recruiting for the Path Forgers. It may be difficult to draw attention in this time as many have chosen allegiances or lay waiting for Early Enrollment, but your mission and ideas have merit so be patient and be sure your postings do not fall too far in the listings.

Hello Vearten. The company you are setting up looks promising. I have a few questions that I figured would be good to have "on the record", so I'll ask them here. I'm only asking for your current ideas; don't think of this as laying down policy, but instead as a casual picking of your brain on how you see the company working.

1. Do you plan on working with many settlements, or mostly working for one settlement?
2. Any plans you'd like to share about potential settlements or companies you are thinking the Path Forgers would work well with (either specific ones or just a general type of company/settlement)?
3. You mention a constitution. Do you have a draft of one yet?

I might be interested in signing myself up with you, but I won't yet make such a declaration. I'd rather just chat, get to know the company as you see it, and decide at length whether it would work for me. :)

@Lifedragn: I look forward to working with the Empryean Order once the game starts. I will keep working towards growing players' interest in the guild until the game launches. Thank you for your support.

@Shane Gifford: I'll be happy to answer any questions that I have answers to.

1. Because my guild is based on exploring mostly unknown hexes I will likely be moving from one settlement to another, however it's also possible I will be able to charter with one settlement and simply move to another within the same alliance but still stay chartered with that settlement. In the end the guild will interact with many settlements whether we charter with a single settlement or move from one to another.

2. I am currently in negotiations with Callambea as the first settlement the guild will be chartered under, I am also speaking with the Seventh veil since both companies are working towards gathering information. Because we are simply after the acquisition of knowledge of surrounding hexes and getting that information to the public we won't exclude good or evil players and thereby can work with more or less any type of group.

3. There is, at this stage, no documented version of the company's constitution. I've only recently made the guild and am working on getting most of the other portions of the guild worked out. The basics of the constitution would revolve around acquiring knowledge of unknown hexes and keeping its members safe on expeditions (it's possible we will be attacked while out in the wilderness)

If there is something I missed or you would like clarified feel free to post it on this thread or PM me, I will post the answer in this thread in either case.

Goblin Squad Member

I think you answered my questions pretty well. The only question I can come up with at the moment is concerning your plans after the map is fairly well known and the settlements well established. You listed " resources, dungeons, escalation groups, bandit hideouts, and more" as things you would be hunting. I could definitely see the escalations and hideouts as being things to hunt out even after the map is "filled in". However, I am under the impression that resources and the Emerald Spire (not sure about any other dungeons) will be stationary things. Are there any other activities you are thinking of in terms of the "late game"? Are my presumptions regarding resources and dungeons in line with what you were thinking?

I will keep myself listed as "interested" in the company, specifically in joining the Supply Corps to help in managing the company coffers and the logistics in supplying so many explorers. I assume that this Corps is intended to cover logistics as well as the stated crafting and repairs?

As a final aside, you may have seen the many posts I have made in the Pax/UNC alliance thread. I just want you to know that although I am opposed to that alliance, and as a politically neutral merchant such a thing might keep me from trading with them, I am not altogether opposed to working with or as a part of Callambea. I'm sure that I'll have things I don't like from every settlement, because a group of people perfectly tailored to my needs isn't going to materialize for me. That's just part of the fun of player generated content though.

Goals for the Late-Game

As you mentioned there will come a time when all resources have been located and construction sites have been filled, however dungeons and escalation locations will always be changing. On top of that the rarer resources are found in hexes with powerful monsters. This means that no matter how long the game lasts there will always be need for somebody to find dungeons, escalations, and wandering monsters around valuable resources. So even when resources are found, the monsters around those resources still need to be taken care of which is where we come in. When more information is revealed about the game I may add more late-game goals.

You nailed it right on the head for the Supply Corps, in terms of "on mission" jobs the supply corps isn't that involved; Their spot in the formation is the center and as such don't really give much to the group in terms of eyes or protection (they're there to be protected) however without them the other corps would find it very difficult to do much of anything. The role of the Supply Corps is to keep track of as much gear as possible so that repairs can be made on a large scale, this means instead of constantly repairing a couple pieces of gear at a time we can repair most of it at once. I try to make the guild as efficient as possible.

Thank you for your interest and these important questions, I'll look forward to speaking with you again. The same as last time, if there is anything I did not make clear or if you simply have more questions feel free to post them here or send me a PM, I will post the answer here.

As I understand it, the map will keep growing for as long as the player population keeps increasing. Of course there will be periods of time when all of the current map will be known but it might be good to keep in mind that "soon" there will be new areas patched in and likely a gold rush kind of situation with plenty of groups swarming the new areas to see where all the goodies are at.

For a prospecting/scouting/exploration company I'd expect that the patching-in of new land will be extra fun and exciting and provide interesting new content.

That is a good point Wurner, I had forgotten about the fact that they'll keep increasing the map size, at least to a point. I'm still working on what else the company will be able to do other then exploration. One proposal is escorting a large number of players from one settlement to another, the formation I've devised can easily add travelers and caravans into the center alongside the Supply Corps. My goal is to never run out of content to do with the company.

A blog about the nature of the company's expeditions will be posted on the company's website soon, this will include goals and formations mainly.

As always thank you for your interest and I'll look forward to answering more questions.

There are quite a few Explorers-at-Heart in The Seventh Veil, and we've generally come to the conclusion that there will be plenty of Exploration to keep us busy even after the entire map is documented because we'll still need to go out and find the randomly appearing Dungeons or Escalations.

I wish you luck and many, many hours of fun in your Explorations.

Goblin Squad Member

Excellent points. I had either forgotten or missed the part about randomly appearing dungeons; that sounds promising for this company's direction.

For late game suggestions (just off the top of my head):

Survey Corps: dungeons, escalations, hideouts of various sorts, "moving" or randomly appearing resources, mercenary scouts for armies

Skirmish Corps: escalation fighting, policing, mercenary work, caravan guards, basically anywhere else a sword arm is applicable

Supply Corps: trading, selling excess gear, spreading out company's assets to minimize risk, continuing their logistics and repair schtick

Are there specific people chosen as the diplomats/company face, is it the council as a whole, only the guild master, or is there no specifically designated company diplomat? Basically, who do you plan on having to make deals with other companies and settlements? (figured this is important, considering your goal of having the company constantly working for different organizations)

Goblin Squad Member

As a representative of House Karnath and the Lord Regent of Golgotha, we encourage your activities and wish you luck in your endeavors.

@Shane - For the time being the diplomat will be myself solely, later in time I may give the different council members extra roles such as diplomat, recruitment officer, etc. but for now I'll will personally take care of those roles. As for the different roles for each corps, each work together on each mission, the Survey Corps can't go scouting without the protection of the Skirmish Corps, and they need the gear provided by the Supply Corps. More information about Missions of the Company will be discussed on my next update.

@Deacon Wulf - I look forward to working with you as well. My company will inevitably work with as many groups as possible.

Like always, I thank you for your interest and look forward to speaking with you again.

Goblin Squad Member

I see. Still, it makes sense that once the organization is a large scale entity, each Corps can act with a certain amount of autonomy. And if all the members are not being used for a large-scale company task, these might be "side objectives" they can work towards to further benefit the company during a period of low activity. I listed them under the specific Corps, because these would be the primary Corps for the given tasks. However, that is not to say the support of the other Corps will not be needed for the listed jobs (also, it helped me to come up with ideas by focusing on one group at a time).

Is your intent for the Survey Corps to be the "main Corps", with the others mostly acting as supportive roles to the Surveyors? In particular I ask about the Skirmish Corps; will they usually act only as guards for the Surveyors?

Goblin Squad Member

Anyways, since I haven't yet come out and said it, I'd like to join your chartered company, working mostly as a part of the Supply Corps.

Welcome to the company Shane Gifford! I look forward to working with you in forging the path of destiny and lighting the way for others. The company's website pathforger.guildlaunch.com has an application link that can be used to officiate membership.

As an answer to your question, all three corps are equally important, there is no "main corps". I designed the corps in order to complete the mission of exploration. The Skirmish Corps can't go out alone because they'll miss entrances to dungeons and can't access resource nodes. The Supply Corps can't go out alone because they can't find points of interests and can't defend themselves. And the Survey Corps can't go out alone because they can't access resource nodes or defend themselves. All three must be present to complete an expedition, that isn't to say they won't be permitted to perform separate tasks without the other corps, however most large scale tasks will use at least one squad from each corps. It also depends on how much the contractor pays, they can pay less and use only a portion of the company or pay more and get more protection.

I was not looking at the smaller tasks at the time I posted my previous reply, I did not mean to sound like the corps were not permitted to do anything alone.

As always thank you for your interest and I look forward to our next meeting.

For anybody interested in this company, you can post here or in the forums at The Path Forgers company site. This would include anybody wishing to join, contract us in the future, or learn more about our company.

As Vaerten said in his last post, applications for membership on the guild website can now be submitted. Any person interested in joining is encouraged to both post in this thread or on the Path Forgers board showing interest in joining, and to submit an application.

Goblin Squad Member

Bumping, with a status update. We're currently in the process of writing up the company constitution; once we have an acceptable first draft, it will be added to the company's website.

Goblin Squad Member

Glad to see you found a company who's really going to fit your neutral trader role. Is it still just you two or have you got others joining in?

Goblin Squad Member

At the moment we have three people. I'm personally not worried about numbers yet; we have plenty of time to recruit, and we aren't aiming for a massive organization.

Not that we'll turn away any who are interested in joining!

As for this company being good for my trading prospects, I'm similarly glad that I can mesh my personal goals with an organization who work with many people and contribute to the community.

Goblin Squad Member

Very interesting ideas for a guild; you have my attention.

Will members be able to be a part of multiple corps? I would love to be able to have my hands in scouting, skirmishing, AND supplying!

Unfortunately Vaerten sort of disappeared suddenly, so this guild isn't a thing anymore.

I don't think that's the right way to look at it. Just because folks aren't active on these forums doesn't mean they're not going to be playing the game. It doesn't hurt anything to leave a note here in case they come back when they can actually get into the game.

Goblin Squad Member

I saw Vearten on our Pax forums just hours ago (on the users sidebar at least). Perhaps he will weigh in here as well before too long.

Goblin Squad Member

Sounds good! I will wait patiently :)

Sorry Nihimon, I should have given more details. I was regularly having Skype discussions with Vaerten for a while, and one day he just stopped talking with me. Not going to guess at the meaning of that; just saying that I used to be the only member that I know of (besides Vaerten) and I am no longer a member, so as of right now the group seems to be snafu'd.

Goblin Squad Member

so is the way of things.

If this doesn't work out, Dazyk I'll help you form your own guild of identical intent. We shall need groups like this one, and I was really eager to see it in action.

Goblin Squad Member

Well, the ideas of this play-style are very dear to me; therefore, even if this guild (or any others like it) do not work out, this will be how I am playing the game. I will just build my reputation to suit that!

:)

Also, I am looking in to a few other guilds, so it is not the end for me.

Good to hear! Loneliness is never an effective situation to remedy a social problem.

Yep some of the Path Forgers company goals are what i first thoughs when i heard about Pathfinder Online.

I believe alot groups will have goals like that at start.
but what happend with Path Forgers?

Sorry for the drop, my internet failed me and my computer became unusable, when I finally got it up and running again I noticed Shane had already decided to leave and I figured it would be easier to let the guild go, however I just got a message and realized this old thread got picked up again. If anyone is interested I will resume development for the guild now that my connection issues have been resolved.

Path Forgers Website
The website is up and running. I'll be posting updates on the website every Monday and Thursday, I'll post an update on this thread every Wednesday.

Goblin Squad Member

No hard feelings Vearten, and I hope you understand why I left. I hope you can get things up and running again. :)

The first update blog is up on the website.
In other news, while we await Pathfinder's release, I'm planning on using other games to get the ball rolling with Path Forgers. I'm setting up a faction on a Minecraft server, this will allow us to get used to each other and have a strong base to step off from when PFO launches. I'll have information on that in the coming days.

Goblin Squad Member

Any interest in the Elder Scrolls Online? ^.^

Goblin Squad Member

Not enough to pay. Without the complex systems and cool stuff we will be getting here, I'm just not excited enough to continually play that.

Also, no crime system? b$~+%!!s.

It does look awesome though.

Goblin Squad Member

@Zael, I think the question was directed at the leader of the Path Forgers, seeing as it's in the Path Forger's thread. :P

Goblin Squad Member

THEY CENSORED THAT?! my life is made.

If I'm correct, ESO isn't out yet either, I'm looking for something the company can get on now, it also needs to be a game most people will already have or is cheap for people to get. That is why I initially chose Minecraft, however I'm taking a look at other games as well such as DDO and StOR, however I believe you have to become a subscribed member to form a guild in those, and I don't have enough interest in those games to pay for them. As for when ESO does come out, I doubt I'll play it, unless PFO is a flop.

Goblin Squad Member

Vearten

Try Neverwinter instead of DDO.

With the limited toolbar and the need to set the skills you wish to use, I imagine the combat system is much closer to the one PfO will have.

Also it is freaking awesome.

I'll look into it, the next blog on the website will be about options the company can do while PFO is still in development, I'll have that up at approximately 6:00 EST.

ESO is out on April 4, 2014. Well before PFO.

It is what I will be playing until the PFO EE.

Anyway, keep us updated here. If the game is free, and seems fun, I might join up!

*Updated information and ideas, along with a more proffesional look for the recruiting block.

Introductions:
Welcome to Path Forgers, a company dedicated to exploring the unknown and filling the blank map. My goal is to create an online map that is complete with settlements, monster spawn locations, common resource locations, POIs and whatever else Goblin Works puts in the game. The main activity the company will partake in will be expeditions, these large scale events involve planning routes, organizing members into advanced formations, and preparing proper gear.

Basic Information:
Path Forgers will be a Neutral aligned company, as such our information is available to both good/evil and lawful/chaotic; I believe information is a right not a privilege.

The company will be split into three divisions:
Survey Corps: The eyes of the company, these members are responsable for locating and marking the location of objectives. (i.e. POIs, resource nodes, monster spawns, etc.)
Supply Corps: The backbone of the company, these members are responsable for keeping inventory of and distributing gear among the members. (i.e. consumables, armor/weapons, bonus items, etc.)
Skirmish Corps: The muscle of the company, these members are responsable for protecting the other divisions. (i.e. from monsters and bandits)

Who should join?
Path Forgers has a position for just about every style of gameplay, from the explorer to the fighter, clerks and crafters, diplomats and leaders, even rogue-like characters are welcomed for when a highly dangerous area needs to be explored and a small hidden team can be sent in.
Joining Path Forgers:
Register on the company website
Send in an application
Post on this thread and announce your presence

While we wait:
I am currently looking at other games to fill the gap while we wait for PFO to launch, you can read more about this in the Getting Your Feet Wet update on the website.
