Where do Catfolk come from?

Would anyone be up for just random group made facts about Catfolk? Like nothing over the top or too jokey, but like crowd sourced race background. I would really like to see something like that now that I have thought of it.

Would be really hard to get people to take seriously though, and who would sort through it all to make a cohesive thought, idk, but I may suggest something like this to my group for a world building exercise.

I like this idea but it might be a bit difficult like you said, you'd have to make sure everyone is on the same line concerning flavor and direction. It might be easier that one OP specifies a general tone for the race and then lets people make suggestions that could be voted on in some way.

Alternatively, the OP sets a tone and others can think of subraces or ethnicities that fit the tone.
I'd be interested in participating!

Nekomimi and Nekomata sound like good ideas for Reskinned Catfolk

Nekomimi is a good name for catfolk. But Nekomata is a creature I want to see stated up as something different then just a humanoid player race.

Because part of the Pathfinder Society campaign is the fact that the campaign is intended to represent the core races—Golarion is not a setting where a lot of unusual humanoid races hang out in Star Wars Cantina style.

And yet, it has enough races to easily have the cantina scene in it. If someone were to want such a scene where would it most likely be?

They come from leaving regular cats alone on a derelict spaceship for thousands and thousands of years. They are very flashy dressers and very vain and they will constantly fix their hair. They can be easily distracted and will betray their best friend for fish.

Also, I love how many people didn't read the rest of the thread and ended up posting re-posting the same two responses.

TLDR: I think the Elder Scrolls is a good way to go for background.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of that on these boards. My estimation is that a critical threshold is reached when a thread gets to ~1.25 pages. After that 90% doesn't read the previous posts and just reposts a previous response.

I thought some of you interested in coming up with a Catfolk backstory might be interested in my Shaman of Humanity archetype:
Shaman of Humanity

The Shaman of Humanity is a Druid archetype that beleives that humanity is just as much a part of nature as trees or animals, and they try to spread their love of humnaity to all the creatures of the world. At high levels, they can permanently turn animals into humanoids,, and part of the background I wrote for the archetype is that they take credit for creating some of the more animalistic humanoid races in the world. :-D

I'd suggest Galisemni, the City of the Celestial and the Damned. It's floating around out in the Maelstrom.

Kaer Maga. Maybe not so many catfolk, but definitely a racially diverse hive of scum etc....

Nekomata are just Shapeshifting Nekomimi with Sorcerer levels and a series of spells pertaining to trickery, infiltration, and deception.

include a feat that lets them shapeshift into a 2 tailed cat with a charisma requirement, and you are fine

As a thought experiment, I once got the idea for a catfolk witch or wizard with a cat familiar. The best I could do was this:

"Do you know what it's like in Nex? It was all so sudden, and I'd like to see you think straight when you're really thinking for the first time. Under pressure, at that. I escaped with my... my wife, yes, before they could fleshwarp her too, and now we just aren't sure whether which of us should join whom.

"Now it's my turn to ask you a question: exactly how many ratfolk did you say were squatting in your building?"

No, Nekomata are creatures from myth, they are more powerful versions of Bakeneko. Bakeneko are cats that have lived long enough they have gained magical powers such as shapeshifting while Nekomatas get more abilities like raising the dead. Nekomimi are just a modern phrase for catgirls and the word itself means "cat ears".

guess i had Chen Yakumo on the brain

guess Chen might be more of a mislabeled 2 tailed catgirl
