Is a mounted Gunslinger viable?

Advice

Sovereign Court

Working on a Halfling Gunslinger/Inquisitor and was wondering if using a Riding Dog or similar mount type creature was worthwhile. The way I look at it, the mount moves for me while I reload.

Yes you can do that...I have a gunslinger Druid that rides a bear...this works well actually because I can fill a multitude of roles. The bear gives me a move of 40 with no penalty to ranged attacks and -4 at up yo double speed. Mine is also a halfling so he is an "all dungeon access" mounted guy :)

Anytime you can get away with being mounted its a huge boost for any ranged character. Its essentially free movement assuming you can make the fairly easy ride checks.

Shadow Lodge

It is, until you get to higher levels, where the bad guys will kill off your mount pretty quickly and easily (and repeatedly, if you try to buy new ones).

Note that Shfish is talking about an animal companion, which you won't get with gunslinger or inquisitor, and therefore your mount's stats won't scale with your level.

Inquisitor could take animal domain to get an animal companion at his Inquisitor level minus three.

Gunslingers value dex above all else and usually are lightly armored, so it should work pretty well. It's best if you're a goblin, already a great gunslinger race, comes with even more dex and a big racial ride bonus.

And yeah, Animal (I suggest Feather sub-) domain gets an animal, and Boon Companion can give it back 4 effective druid levels, which would help a lot.

Or maybe another PC has a pet you can ride.

I had a thought to try out a gunslinger/luring cavalier. Beastmaster if they can stack, based purely on this mini.

The Far Challenge plus double-barrelled guns could potentially get nasty pretty quick.

That is a bad mama jama

Zefig, where is that mini from?

Scalykind domain also grants an animal companion, and at only -2. Saurian subdomain lets it be a dinosaur instead of a snake. That might work for the OP and for zefig

Ruby, from Studio McVey. It's a little pricey.
