So, total disclosure; I love Proteans. :v Some of it probably has something to do with my love for the Chaotic (Good and Neutral) alignments, but their plans for the multiverse also inspire me to design quite a number of related character concepts. As much as I'd love to interact with some as NPCs and develop some kind of in-character relationship with them, that's probably not in the cards for the immediate future (largely because we're only using pre-made scenarios for adventures). However, since we all have the opportunity to make new characters and I'll be able to play this upcoming week, I was thinking I'd like to do what I can to bring Proteans to the game; in this case as the Eidolon for my summoner.
Since this is my first time playing a summoner (and since I'd like to hear the opinions off other people about what makes a good protean eidolon), I figured I'd post my current thoughts and my build to see what everyone thinks. Right now, my idea is that the eidolon lost most of its powers and even its form due to a horribly-botched summoning ritual (or perhaps it was conjured from the raw material of the Maelstrom and is mistaken in its memory of having once been a Naunet). My goal is for it to regain its prior form and powers until its bond with my Summoner has made it as strong as it would have been, had it not been disturbed, and perhaps even stronger.
Here are the evolutions (and their costs) that I was thinking it would make sense for a Naunet protean to have:
Bite (Cost 1)
Limbs (arms) (Cost 1)
Tail (Cost 1)
Tail Slap (Cost 1)
Tentacle (Cost 1)
Tentacle (Cost 1)
Reach (Bite) (Cost 1)
Reach (Tail Slap) (Cost 1)
Reach (Tentacle) (Cost 1)
Reach (Tentacle) (Cost 1)
Resistance (Electricity) (Cost 1)
Resistance (Sonic) (Cost 1)
Swim (Cost 1)
Grab (Tail Slap) (Cost 2)
Immunity (Acid) (Cost 2)
Minor Magic (Detect Law) (Cost 2)
Blindsense (Cost 3)
Damage Reduction (5/Law) (Cost 3)
Large (Cost 4)
Flight (Supernatural) (Cost 4)
Spell Resistance (Cost 4)
Also, while Serpentine base form seems most fitting, I found that the Biped base form ultimately gave me more of the abilities I was looking for (automatic reach with the purchase of Large). I was thinking I'd ask the other players if they were comfortable with me just not gaining the Claws or Limbs (legs) evolutions. Unfortunately, though, as many of the GMs aren't yet confident in their GMing ability and since we sometimes change GMs from day to day, I'm not really comfortable asking for anything not available by RAW.
Anyway, here's what I was thinking for the build (with Extra Evolution taken at every possible level):
Base Form: Biped
1 - Claws, Limbs (arms), Limbs (legs), Tail, Tail Slap, Bite, Resistance (acid)
2 - Tentacle
3 - Tentacle
4 - Tentaclex2 => Large Size
5 - Tentaclex2
6 - Swim
7 - Swim => Grab (Tail Slap)
8 - Immunity (acid)
9 - Grab (Tail Slap) => Flight (supernatural)
10 - Swim
11 - Swim => DR5/Lawful
12 - Swim
13 - Resistance (electricity)
14 - Resistance (electricity) => Bllindsense
15 - Grab (Tail Slap)
16 - Resistance (electricity)
17 - Resistance (sonic)
18 - Scent
19 - Resistance (electricity), Resistance (sonic), Scent => Spell Resistance
20 - Resistance (electricity)
So, any thoughts? Anything I've missed? Has anyone else built a Protean Eidolon who might have some tips for me to make the eidolon's build as rewarding as possible? Does anyone know how to gain access to the Extra Evolution feat made available at 20th level? Anyone feel like just talking about how awesome proteans are? :v

Cool idea, but remember that the serpentine base has reach with bite to begin with, and essentially gives you everything but arms and acid resist at first level, as well as climb, which while not exactly a protean thing, is still helpful. However if you're dead set on humanoid, maybe give a cosmetic overhaul to the claws and legs. As an example, once I used a goblin summoner (synthesist) as the BBEG, with his eidolon being an aspect of zarongel as a giant flaming goblin, and reflavored the claws as dogslicers that appeared/disappeared as nessacery

It's true that serpentine is much closer to what I want at first level, but keep in mind that while I get bite, reach (bite), tail, and tail slap for free, in their place, I have to buy reach (tentacles)x2, reach (tail slap), and limbs (arms), which ultimately costs me one more evolution point. (so, in the long run, biped is less expensive, even if it does saddle me with some decidedly un-protean features. :v) Reflavoring the claws and legs might work out, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how I could flavor them. :|a If I were willing to ignore reach, though, and/or didn't care about arms, serpentine form would be far superior, no question!

After I posted my build, I discovered that I'd actually overlooked a fairly important rule; that evolutions can (and often do) have level requirements that must be met before they can be taken. Adding that into my considerations, I recalculated my build.
Here are the evolutions (and their requirements) that I was thinking it would make sense for a Naunet protean to have:
Bite (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Tail (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Tail Slap (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Tentacle (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Tentacle (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Reach (Bite) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Reach (Tail Slap) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Reach (Tentacle) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Reach (Tentacle) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Resistance (Electricity) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Resistance (Sonic) (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Swim (Cost 1, req lvl 1)
Grab (Tail Slap) (Cost 2, req lvl 1)
Limbs (arms) (Cost 2, lvl 1)
Immunity (Acid) (Cost 2, req lvl 7)
Minor Magic (Detect Law) (Cost 2, req lvl 4)
Blindsense (Cost 3, req lvl 9)
Damage Reduction (5/Law) (Cost 3, req lvl 9)
Large (Cost 4, req lvl 8)
Flight (Supernatural) (Cost 4, req lvl 5)
Spell Resistance (Cost 4, req lvl 9)
For now, I think I may have to play off its arms as intermingled with its original tentacles (until it grows new ones to replace them), making its claw attacks, in effect, the replacement for its tentacle attacks.
Given my earlier oversight, here's my revised build (again, with Extra Evolution taken at every possible level):
Base Form: Biped
1 - Claws, Limbs (arms), Limbs (legs), Tail, Tail Slap, Bite, Resistance (acid)
2 - Resistance (electricity)
3 - Resistance (sonic)
4 - Grab (Tail Slap)
5 - Grab Tail Slap => Flight (Supernatural)
6 - Swim
7 - Immunity (Acid)
8 - Resistance (electricity), Resistance (sonic), Swim => Large
9 - Resistance (electricity), Resistance (sonic)
10 - Swim
11 - Swim => DR5/Lawful
12 - Swim
13 - Tentacle
14 - Tentacle => Blindsense
15 - Grab (Tail Slap)
16 - Tentacle
17 - Tentacle
18 - Scent
19 - Tentacle, Scent => Spell Resistance
20 - Tentacle
