Double blessing of the gods?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hello all!

I know that blessing of the gods is a card that can be used by one player on another. I also know that a player can use it on himself. I know the rulebook states that a player may only play one of a type of card on himself per check.

Does that mean that another player cannot play blessing of the gods on me if I play one on myself, or no? :)

Every player may play a blessing on the same check. This rule applies to other card types if the card affects the check.

Straight from the rule book:

Players may now play
cards from their hands to affect the check. Each player may play no
more than 1 of each card type; for example, 2 different players may
each play 1 spell to help your check, but no single player may play 2
spells.

But must the other players be in the same location to help out?

Only if the card they're playing says so. In the case of blessings, this is called out explicitly on page 16 of the rulebook:

Quote:
Blessing cards often allow you to add dice to checks attempted by any player, including yourself, at any location.

That's powerful. Thank you. Can other players use other types of cards while in the same location to help combat, defense or otherwise? ?

Only if the card says so explicitly on it. As an example: Potion of Ruggedness says "Banish this card and choose a character at your location to succeed at a survival check."

Good gaming!

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification

I wouldn't put it that way because it comes off too limiting. Instead I would say that you can help in anyway you want, as long as the card doesn't say you can't. So if the card doesn't specify a location, you can use it from any location.

One thing you can't do is change the combat check. So say the active PC is using a Longsword for a combat check based on Strength: Melee. Someone else can't also use a weapons card to help on that check, unless the card says otherwise [i.e. Ally Dart +1].

BUT....A blessing card could be used to add a die to the check....no?

@TClifford - I think you must have missed the recent firestorm in the Thieves' Tools and When to play cards threads.

Lots of cards CANNOT be used at any time unless they say they can. E.g. you cannot play a caltrops to let somebody else defeat a monster.

@Frompe summed it up quite well in the OP of the When to play cards thread, but read through the discussion for comments about Curing spells.

@ern2112 - yes, you can play a blessing to add a die to almost any check.

What @TClifford meant was that you can't normally play a weapon on a check, unless it explicitly says you can use it to add to another (person's) combat check.

SOunds reasonable

Silver Crusade

Weapons usually say "your combat check" in their power section, so you can only use them when you're encountering a monster, not when somebody else is.

You see that thread as proof that limiting card use is a rule, where I see that is a thread that just shows a handful of cards that are limited. Most of the spells, blessings, items, and allies can still be used pretty much whenever you want.
