Items that protect against negative levels?

Advice

I'm curious, are there any items in pathfinder outside of a scarab of protection that can protect against negative levels and energy drain?

Shadow Lodge

Off hand I can think of only one....
Scarab of Protection.

There used to be a spell called nagative/positive plane protection. I'd say the protection from energy and resist energy should be able to protect against positive and negative energy as well. But strangely that's not canon.
As a GM I would totally allow that.

Negative Plane Protection was superceded by Death Ward.

A house-rule allowing Resist Energy to protect against negative or positive energy damage might be OK, but protecting against negative levels is out of the scope of the intent of that spell (note Death Ward, which protects against negative levels, is 4th level and has a shorter duration than Resist Energy at 2nd level).

Thanx houser2112, I hadn't seen that spell yet. And I certainly did not realise that it did more then ward against death attacks.

So an item having the spell death ward permanently in it would cost 2000*4(spell level)*7(minimum caster level)*2(spells duratiuon is minutes/level instead of hours/level)= 112,000GP

Still I like my solution extending the list of types of energie 'resist energy' and 'protection from energy' protect against, with positive and negative energy. It would allow some cheaper and lesser variant that would partially protect against the positive/negative energy. Maybe the protection against those energies should be halve the normal protection the spells give against their normal list.

Deathless for your armor or shield.

So they even covered that allready. And at the expense of a +1 bonus cost only. Just on armor though not shields said the description. And thank you MrSin.

So the answer is no then?

Liberty's Edge

There is the Black Soul Shard. That will protect you from one energy drain once a week. pretty nice as two of them make you immune to the negative levels from raise dead so long as you wait a week before getting killed again.

Silver Crusade

Nice item but unfortunately you can only be attuned to one at a tine.

If you're going 3.5, Soulforge armor does the trick against all negative energy special attacks.

+4 cost, however.

Beyond the two in this thread ...
Short answer not much that isn't going to be custom made and probably based off Death Ward.

3.5 Forgotten Realms material had some items as well as Death Ward property for Armor and Shields if I'm not mistaken (and not nearly as pricey as the calculation up thread). Spell wise things like Contingency, Spell Immunity and Greater Spell Immunity might plug a gap or two if you know ahead of time what sort of Undead or Death magic you are going to face. Limited Wish could be used by an Arcane Caster (for Death Ward) if they felt the protection was worth the casting cost.

If not a "pure" PF only home campaign then there is Persistent Spell (3.5E) though its 6 level adjustment makes it also need some way to reduce the adjustment by at least 1 level to use Death Ward even as a 9th level slot.

Persistent Spell:

Persistent Spell [Metamagic]
Prerequisite

Extend Spell.
Benefit

A persistent spell has a duration of 24 hours. The persistent spell must have a personal range or a fixed range. Spells of instantaneous duration cannot be affected by this feat, nor can spells whose effects are discharged. You need not concentrate on spells such as detect magic or detect thoughts to be aware of the mere presence or absence of the things detected, but you must still concentrate to gain additional information as normal. Concentration on such a spell is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A persistent spell uses up a spell slot six levels higher than the spell’s actual level.

Best bet in the short run less expense field of options is, in my experience, (as a Wizard in a party that often included no divine casters) is a good Fort save and or a Wand or Staff with Death Ward available and the UMD to use it.

Well, anything that helps your saving throws, or your fort save will be of some use. If they are temporary, you're in better shape.

Assuming these come from the undead, a potion of Mage armor gives you some protection, which is good because your armor does nothing. Ghost touch armor should keep you from getting hit as often.

Holy water is your best low level defense against ghostly undead.

And A scroll of tiny hut will keep incorporeal undead out for a long time.

To a limited degree, there's ring of the grasping grave

It'll only help when you're attacking them, but it's something.

Scarab Sages

Silverfang from the Adventure Path, Curse of Lady's Light, increases your saves to Level Drain.

White Shoanti War Paint from the Adventure Path, A History of Ashes, has a 1-time use, 24-hour duration, negation of negative level, as well as a +4 to saves against them. Costs 1800g per jar, so not the nicest of penny pinchers.

Also, the Helm of Darkness (opposite of the Helm of Brightness) makes you immune to all undead special abilities, among other things. 3.5 Faerun.
