The trailer looks okay and the cast is pretty good, but I'm reserving judgment until I see more. All of the early buzz about the script that I've read made this sound awful and actually a little insulting of the original film. They may have removed the scene but, apparently, there was a point in the script where a focus group is shown an early design of Robocop that looks like the original and they tear it apart saying it looks like a cheap toy from the '80s. Hopefully, the producers knew well enough to remove that since a lot of the people who might pay to see this are big fans of the original.
I've also read they've removed all of the social satire from this version though I'm less bothered by that. It's hard to pull that off the way the original Robocop did without it getting too campy. I'd rather they drop it than do it poorly.

Removing what made 80s movies good is a time honoured tradition of modern remakes! Still, I'll probably have to see it just the same.

Saw this trailer at Riddick tonight. Looks good I think they are going to push hard the humanity angle. (Whats up with the michael jackson look with robo;s hands?) It looks like it will be good either way but a home run for me will be if they can retain any of Verhoeven's subtle humor and social commentary.
People really get bent out of shape about Robos original look being butt of a joke? The yellow spandex thing went over well for X-men. I think people could handle it as long as it wasn't drawn out.

No longer optimistic. It was given a PG-13 rating. That's it for me. Not going to see it.
Ohhhh... Actually, I'm the opposite. That gives me more hope for the show!!!
I'm really sick of where the 'R' bar stands now days. Most of the R movies of the 80's would fall into a high Pg-13 nowdays...

Um, no. If you have more then one swear word in a movie, it cannot be PG-13. Which is completely and utterly ridiculous. Also, if there is more then a few seconds of nudity, no rating, sorry. Plus, in Robocop from 1987 you could see people being reduced to chunks of red gore. Open wounds and stuff. Let's not mention that melting dude. I wonder if that kind of film would just get R today.

Probably not. I remember seeing Robocop when I was 16 and watching the ED-209 blow away the guy in the conference room and thinking "Woah, that was a little extreme."

True, but most of that crap is overkill. Robocop is one of the rare 80's movies that had was almost X for violence. They had to cut it down to get the R.
Swearing is tedious in these kind of movies... pretty much all movies, but these especially. I'll be glad to see it gone.
Nudity? I came to see a killer cyborg cop shoot badguys... not porn.
Violence? I'm actually a fan of 'violence' in movies... but not as big a fan of 'Gore.'
The early Rambo movies had massive body counts and explosions and bullets all over the place. The newest one had him open a guys innards with a machete and watch them spill out.
Yeah... I prefer the R of the 80's to that.
Swearing and nudity aren't going to ADD anything to plot and more often then not distract from it. Now days the shower scenes and blood splatters seem added into a movie like someones marking a checklist 'just so it can be R...'
"Well... The lady goes home, why don't we show her changing her clothes?? "
"Well... we didn't show anyone else stripping down for no reason..."
"So? We got a few minutes we can focus on that... Also... I only counted 3 F-bombs... I want two more. I know... give em' to the nun. People will find it Hilarious... "

As an added note.
Robocop 'R'
Robocop II 'R'
But after that....
Robocop 3 'Pg-13'
Robocop animation ('88) 12 episodes,
Robocop Tv series, (' )23 episodes....
And Apparently another animated series 'Robocop: Alpha Commandos' with 40 episodes...
I didn't see all of these, but
Sooooo really, the core concept of 'what makes a man a man, and how much machine still has a soul...' isn't intrinsictly tied to ultra gore...

sorry, I cannot take a defense of robocop 3 seriously.

Looks awful. Not liking the suits look as it reminds me of a black eyes pea video. People hoping for a better message/acting/etc are going to be disapointed. This looks like its being aimed at the first Gi joe movie/Judge Dredd remake/Clash of the titans 2 crowd.
Mark Wahlberg came out the other day trashing people for being mad about affleck as Batman and loving the fact that movies are failing. these movies are failing because they suck! There is no plot, nobody to care for, too much special effects/action on the screen with horrible human acting. There are a lot of producers/directors and studio executives that need to get fired. Finds better scripts and better material. Last summer should be a wakeup call for investors
1. Dont make a movie about a 60-70's western that nobody would want to see. If FLipper is being remade stop production right now!
2. Stop trying to blow up everything
3. Stop casting only good looking people who cant act
4. Dont try to fool us with political message movies
5. If one studio gets the rights to a certain movie dont release a smiliar movie that same year "white house down"
6. Dont approve movies like RIPD, After Earth, Etc
7. Why not spread out good movies into early fall? I always find it strange thats its hard to find a good movie in September/October and that May-July that bunch up a lot of the blockbusters
8. Stop changing the story "Last Airbender". There was a reason why the cartoon worked
9. If people want a certian movie sequel such as Toy Story, Nemo, etc than make it happen sooner. Its clearly worth the extra money
10. Start asking the public what books/tv show etc they would want to see as a movie and dont make a half hearted effort (Deadpool in wolverine)

Dredd was indeed awesome. Loved the fact that you never saw his face. Very true to the comic.
Really? I was bored through the first 45 minutes of the film. (Ooh! Look at everything move in slow motion! Aah! *yawn*) The only reason I stuck around was because I realized Lena Heady was Ma-Ma. The latter half of the movie picked up and I was fairly entertained, but I have to say
Just seems like the Robocop reboot is missing too many of the elements I liked in the original. I'm not sure why they want him to keep his humanity right off the bat, rather than having it come back as a "side effect" they can't control. Granted, I'm just going off what little they show in the trailer, but it strikes me as heavy-handed and clumsy.

The dredd remake probably is not a good comparison, as that had a hard R rating and definitely didn't feel like it was catering to PG-13 sci-fi action crowd. It was probably closer to the original robocop than it is to the remake.
That was the point I was trying to make. Dredd is in the style probably more like Robocop than the reboot will be. Also, why do people keep saying "remake" of Dredd? The Stallone movie wasn't the original material. Hell it wasn't even close to the original material.

It was Sly yelling "I'm the law" and Armand Assante howling LAAAAAAAAAAW back at him. I love that scene.

nope, not even close...but it was a fun movie. Unfortunately dredd is not a very fun comic, it was a true slap in the face to most fans.

I realize this is going to be a very minor point for most, but for me, the interest died at 'Forth Degree Burns'
Medically there is no such thing as Fourth Degree Burns'. After Third Degree you go to 'deep tissue' because 'Third Degree' is when you have no integument left, emphasis mine.
Unnecessary Bad Science is unnecessary.

So, broke down and saw the film with my friend. Pleasantly surprised. It is a pretty decent piece of cinematography that holds up well. Acting is good, story is good.
Film is good.
It's not RoboCop from the 80s, and it's not supposed to be either. And I'm liking that.
And once again, it's a satire on American society, the power of media and how everything is becoming a product and how you only have to present it in a good way.
