Possible Council Of Thieves Game

Play-by-Post Discussion

Post here so we can talk about it.

So me and Night Shade have been talking about doing a Council of Thieves AP.

I have 2 AP's going right now and I don't want to start something I can't finish but I do find myself wanting another game.

I like combat in my games. Its a big part of D&D so there will be a lot of that.

I am a min/maxer myself so I don't mind that.

I do mind when people try to break the rules or twist them to their advantage.

So be powerful but do not break the game.

Know that I will not wait long on you to post most times so I will take control of your character or take an action for you in combat to keep the game moving.

Also know I consider myself a pretty new GM so I am trying to get better with my descriptions and flavor.

I also like to and like it when players and characters are silly and crack jokes in and out of character.

If you are interested Post your idea for a character if we all get excited enough I will start it up!

Players Guide

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Council of Thieves... I invited some players from my old ROTRL game, don't know if anyone will show. Looking forward to this.

Interesting. Do y'all have any races or classes you would really like to see or you believe would be especially useful?

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

I was kinduv thinking of playing a storm casting druid. You know, a dru-ish princess.' First joke of the game goes to me?

You know I just saw that Jane Austin Book and Gun Club picture you have on your profile, mousestalker! Don't know why I never saw it before but it made me crack up...

Personally I am open to any race or class as long as you are excited about it.

Character creation would be the standard 20 point buy.

I like it when my players really get involved with the game and help me tell the story. So much so that you can be walking along a street and say "Hey let me stop in this store here and talk to Joe he may know something about this."

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Night-Shade tipped me off to this and I am interested. Let me read up CoT and I'll then post a possible concept.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Hi Monkeygod! I'm sorry to see Dairkal is still at LVL2 :( Someday he will find a ROTRL game that isn't GMed by a guy who just had twins!!!

Glad you responded to the PM though!

One thing I want to ask. Can you guys commit to posting on the weekends?

Im in some pretty fast games but Id like to see at least a post a day. How does that sound?

I invited 2 more players. Everyone seems intrested we will see what happens.

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4

Definitely interested. I've downloaded the players guide and will give it a read. Any ideas on what kind of characters you'll need? My first impulse was a Tiefling rogue/sorcerer but I'm open to playing whatever's needed. (I'm posting this as Talon strictly for name recognition :-)

Cool man. Night shade has shown intrest in Druid. Like I said I don't care about classes but I want 4 to 5 players max.

Im tired of having to adjust things for partys of 7 or 8

If you can not post on weekends its totally not a deal breaker btw.

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4

As Talon I've posted a lot but I usually have to pull myself back from posting more. I don't want to hog the spotlight. I should be able to keep up with whatever play speed we end up at (but faster is better!).

Male Human Sorcerer(Infneral) 5/Infernal Disciple 3

I was actually thinking Tiefling Sorc, using this alias. He would, however, probably be evil. If that's not allowed, I can either make him neutral or come up with a different PC.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Awesome! Now we just need to confirm a few more players...

Evil is fine as long as you play along.

The main goal is to topple the current power so as long as you work towards that goal I do not see much of a problem.

A little about me as a GM.

I started my first play by post June 17th this year. It was a crypt of the everflame module. We finished that last week and took the same 3rd level characters into the Shattered Star AP.

That game was too slow for me so I started a Leagacy of Fire AP with the goal of 5+ posts a day that is not happening but we are at the end of book 1 in about 2 months.

So I hope you take from that, that I finish modules in the play by post format.

Male Robot Fighter 1; Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0; AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex) hp 16 (1d10+6)

Evil is okay? Hm. I've always wanted to play an evil cleric, temporarily convenienced-aligned with the forces of good. I must protect the the Tiefling at all costs, so that at the end of our journey I may sacrifice him, that the world may be reborn... hahaha!

I've read GM Dave's other threads and he does do a good job. And he does finish games. Which is encouraging:)

I have a tiefling barbarian that I am very fond who was stranded by the demise of her campaign. Or I could make a rogue halfling (haven't played a halfling for a very long time, so that could be fun). The tiefling is a goddess of combat. If I go halfling, she would be a 'face' in all likelihood.

Which is more needed, given the setting and the DM's play style? I'm asking because the fun for me is in playing and I like to be active.

I will do whatever I can to make your character shine and reach your goals. I will always break rules in favor of story. So whatever you want to play is fine. Really your fellow players will have more input on that.

Also you don't have to have a Tank, Healer, and skill monkey.

I will bend rules to make the party work. Im getting ready to give an alchmist spells and abilities so he can fill the healing role in the Leagacy game. The cleric and Druid both dropped.

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4

I'm always a bit reluctant to play evil characters. However, if some of the party is evil, I'd rather we all were.

Female Halfling, 4 Per +13 SM +10 Init +6 F +2(1) R +9 W +3 AC 17 (T 15 FF 13) CMD 15 HP 21(20)

This is more or less what I was thinking. I'd love any and all feedback.
Also, what is our starting level?

Level 1

Male shirren priest mystic 4 | SP 28 HP 30 | RP 6 | EAC 16; KAC 16 | Fort +3; Ref +2; Will +8 | Init: +1 | Perc: +11, blindsense (vibration) 30 ft.;SM:+4 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: None.

Hey Dave you still looking for players for this one?

I like Sorsha, Mouse. I love how you took the reins their and made some assumptions about the city. It makes the game come alive.

Take a campaign trait and one other.

Lol sure man.

Im looking for 4 to 5 players max. And you post A Lot. So talk to the party and figure out characters.

Looks like we got these players locked in.

Mouse
Night Shade
Talon
and Nilesr is a posting madman.

I invited Yorn from the crypt game but he can not commit to posting on werkends. I said that was not a deal breaker but it is someyhing I really wanted.

Btw I did not invite you before because you are in 2 of my games already! Who knew you would want to be in the third! Lol.

I like games that have a good flow.
It's disappointing me that the LoF game is slowing down so much, that game started really fast and awesome. Maybe it'll pick up.

Human Inquisitor of ???? (Trying to think of a god that fits the campaign) Asmodeus??? Abadar??

Seems like rogue and sorc are covered so there goes skills/arcane...someone said something about a cleric...so maybe a hardbitten fighter (LN) who has a grudge?? Hellknight material??

What are you guys thoughts?

Female Halfling, 4 Per +13 SM +10 Init +6 F +2(1) R +9 W +3 AC 17 (T 15 FF 13) CMD 15 HP 21(20)

Thanks! I took Conspiracy Hunter (Perception) for the campaign trait. The other trait is Reactionary.

Female Halfling, 4 Per +13 SM +10 Init +6 F +2(1) R +9 W +3 AC 17 (T 15 FF 13) CMD 15 HP 21(20)

nilesr, the single best inquisitor I've ever played was an Inquisitor of Desna. She had Luck as her domain with gambler as a profession. The guides understate just how awesome that combo is. Shelyn and Calistria both have fun domains as well.

"I am the Inquisitor of Love", for example...

CG Rouge locked in!

Male shirren priest mystic 4 | SP 28 HP 30 | RP 6 | EAC 16; KAC 16 | Fort +3; Ref +2; Will +8 | Init: +1 | Perc: +11, blindsense (vibration) 30 ft.;SM:+4 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: None.

I've never played in a urban campaign and from the players guide it seems that the campaign is sort of gritty and noiresque. I'll give it some more thought but inquisitor seems to be my natural pick. But I'm fine playing a ranged fighter type or a melee warrior.

I have 1 house rule for pbp.

We will not roll for initiative.

First post goes first.

Unless its a supprise round monsters will go after 2 or 3 posts.

If you take too long to post in combat you may be skipped that round. I will tell you how many actions you can take in the next round if you are skipped.

We will use a battle map asscessable through google drive.

I am still learning rules so be aware of that. Generaly I will take you on your word that what you are doing is legal. Do not take advantage of that it pisses me off.

One more thing you can totally have a combat pet if you Really want one. They are not my favorite thing in the game though. They clutter up dungeons. What I mean is a 10 foot hallway with 2 melee (say a fighter and Rouge) have issues getting into place with a big cat ass in the way.

Dark Archive

DM Night-shade presents, backstory for Adria Darkling. Let me know if you want changes Dave. She has recently abandoned Asmodeus so she is dietyless. Can I take RUNE and CHARM domains?

Will get stats up later tonight...wife and I are doing garage sale *yuck!!!*

Yea man thats cool Im easy on rules unless you abuse my lenience.

Talk with the rest of the party. Do you know anyone else?

So rouge, cleric, inquisitor, and sorceror maybe?

I think that would work fine.

You can all be strangers for this btw.

Male shirren priest mystic 4 | SP 28 HP 30 | RP 6 | EAC 16; KAC 16 | Fort +3; Ref +2; Will +8 | Init: +1 | Perc: +11, blindsense (vibration) 30 ft.;SM:+4 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: None.

Perhaps a fighter would be better than an inquisitor since melee might be lacking.

Idea 1: Vengeance focused inquisitor of Calistra (Male) who wields a whip in one hand and a sword in the other. Would focus on combat manuvers with the whip (Trip, Disarm). Domain would be Luck. Conspiracy hunter would be trait, he would be focused on the disappearance of his lover in westcrown. He would be Chelaxian but from another town.

Idea 2: Polearm master Fighter, uses combat manuvers like bullrush and trip. Westcrown firebrand would be the trait. He would be a CG freedom fighter type from Westcrown.

Idea 3: Ranged inquisitor of Abadar who is on a mission to make Westcrown a safer place (Well, a more lawful one, he would be a crime fighter) Domain travel and the Child of Infamy trait. His grandfather was actually a well known bard in the city.

Any other ideas? Seems we need a melee tank a little more than inquisitor support characters. I could possibly go sword/board fighter also, but that would get kinda boring I think.

Male Human Sorcerer(Infneral) 5/Infernal Disciple 3

I want to play in this game and I love my PC Haruk, but I work 9am-5pm Eastern Standard Time, and thus am unsure if I can keep up with the rapid posting demands. I can definitely post a few times a day if not at work, or if I have time to post from my cell while there.

Weekends are usually OK for me to post as well, but I do sometimes work a few hours on Sat, though I am often done by 2.

Also, with my birthday next Sat, my flying to LA on the 18th for a Vampire the Masquerade convention, NYCC in Oct and then the holiday madness of working at a big grocery store, posting might slow down a bit here and there.

As I said, I would like to play in this game, but I figured I should warn you ahead of time. If my potential to not keep up post wise is too much a problem, I understand if I won't be accepted.

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4

Here's Za Chien , Tiefling rogue (planning to take levels as a sorcerer)

How soon would Chien go sorc?

Also if Haruk is accepted we would have a rouge a Sorc and a rogue/sorc. Not sure I like that party composition.

Haruk both my current games sputter on the weekend if I can get a party that will post on weekends I may jump at the chance.

On the other hand Night Shade recomended you and that carrys a lot of weight. Stick around please nothing is final yet. If you were ok with me taking control of your character when you have a lull in posting that could work as well. We will see!

Dark Archive

I am happy to switch to a more melee char if needed to accomodate to sorcs.

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4
GM: Dave the Dwarf wrote:

Za Chien will probably alternate between rogue and sorcerer for the first few levels. Depending on how long the game lasts he may end up rogue 3/sorcerer 3 but it depends on party needs.

I totally agree with you on the party balance issue. That's why I like a game where we can talk about who plays what and work things out ahead of time. That being said, spell selection makes a huge difference in a characters role in the party. Za Chien will probably be taking spells that enhance his combat and general sneakiness.

Male Human Sorcerer(Infneral) 5/Infernal Disciple 3

I have no problems at all with you taking control of my PC during times I can't post, and I will even give a list of likely actions to help facilitate that.

If Za Chien and I are chosen, I believe our spell selection will be different enough where it won't matter we're both Sorc.

Haruk is an Infernal blooded Sorc, who will focus on Enchantment/Illusion spells, as well as Fire spells.

I start these AP's with every intention of finishing the whole thing. If thats too much for you dont join please.

I will leave it to the party. How do you feel Sorsha about 2 rouges. Is that going to step on your toes?

Male Dwarf: AC 17 | frt +7 | ref +6 | will +3 (+2 poison/fear/spells) | CMD 20 (24) | HP 44/49(45) Ranger (guide)/4

Keep in mind that I'm not invested in Za Chien. He was just my first impulse. If he doesn't work I'm more than willing to play another class.

Yea totally understood.

If anyone has any intrest in Levels in bard at all this would be a good game to do that. Fame points play a huge role. The goal overall is to win over the general population to your side. Even if you have evil intent.

Win the people

Topple the governent

Rule with an Iron Fist Muahahaha

For example if you guys were evil. I think everyone is leaning good though.
