Advice on monster-generators.

Advice

Hey, all you DMs out there-got any specific advice on great monster-generating programs online?
I'll be primarily using my iPhone 3GS, if that matters.

What are you really wanting?

Do you want a program that you can tell CR and terrain and find an appropriate enemy?

The PRD has a good breakdown of enemies by creature type, CR, and terrain. That is what is most commonly used.

If you want to custom create a creature that is much more difficult, unless you're wanting to create a humanoid NPC. If that is the case then I would suggest that you do the same as you would for PC character creation, and the tool I would recommend in HeroLab. It even allows you to add templates to characters. Choose a race (and a template if desired) add levels to get to the appropriate CR, pickup feats and wealth as appropriate for an NPC.

I think you ultimately want to create new monsters on the fly and to that I say...Good Luck and Godspeed.

I believe I want it mainly for humanoid Npcs.

So, what is HeroLab? A website, program, app?

Hero Lab is a computer program, so it would not be usuable on the phone itself. Though it does generate PDFs (and I think text documents if you really want) that you could put on your phone to look at during a game, but you wouldn't be able to create a character on the fly really.

If you need a character that quickly just use these here.
