Sandpoint Lighthouse: what did you put underneath it?

Rise of the Runelords

hi guys,
despite the fact that I told the pcs that the lighthouse is rumored to have been an ancient weapon, they still think it holds a secret ruin/dungeon. I never planned for anything as I built out chopper isle, the wishing well, the pauper graves, and the brinestump marshes. I was wondering what things you have done with the lighthouse? simple cave or ruin build could be done, but what loot, creatures, story plots...ect?
ty for any ideas

But there is a dungeon there early in the first adventure....

Sovereign Court

*coughs* Spoilers Drew, Spoilers.

Technically...

Spoiler:
the dungeon is more under the jail than the tower
. I suspect much of the area right under the Old Light collapsed in the cataclysm that caused much of the tower to collapse (and Thassilon to fall).

So I'd say have nothing there. PCs can always be wrong about stuff!

Hee hee!

I have arranged it so that the only people telling the PCs about Old Light being a weapon are unreliable, paranoid, or regular readers of the Golarion version of the National Enquirer. Consequently, the PCs don't believe them--or, at least, they are pretending not to believe them for the sake of the game, I'm not sure which.

My Google-fu is weak at the moment (lack of coffee) but I am sure that I found a fan-created mini-dungeon on the Interweb. I remember that the party have to climb down ropes on the inside of the lighthouse and they find a secret door at the bottom, which opens to...

Sorry, mind's a blank after that!

Maybe someone else knows where it can be found or has a copy.

Sounds like one of the mini-modules in the latest Wayfinder fan-zine, #9.

Yep, that's the one. Wayfinder 9!

You could always transfer

Spoiler:
some/all of the dungeon from Shattered Star within the pillar of the Irespan

Ruyan.

The Exchange

I suppose you could place a narrow but very deep bore-shaft that plunges straight into the earth - and is flooded after a certain depth. That way the PCs are "right" - they found a hidden area! - but not about to benefit from it, since there's only one "room" and it has no monsters, no treasure and no bottom (for all practical purposes).

I added a large dungeon underneath. My players love dungeons (like most players ;) ) so it's great for them. I used the "certain spells to open certain doors" idea from the Pathfinder comics and created a bunch of smaller areas that need a certain type and level of spell to open, so they can just keep coming back as they level.
They seemed to have enjoyed it so far.

haven't tried the "certain spell/door " idea ....how do you introduce the spells to the party?

My players never even thought of anything under the lighthouse. Then again, they've gone under the Glassworks so they may think that was the "dungeon" under the lighthouse.

do you know which mini-module from the new wayfinder 9? just downloaded it

found it ty wayfinder!!!!

I didn't use it because...

Spoiler

:
it ends up as a portal to the Darklands

and my players would get side-tracked from ROTRL. However, I was planning to use it (suitably beefed-up) after the end of ROTRL as a way for the players to continue playing their high-level characters. On the other hand, I may use In_digo's idea over the course of ROTRL and have the final spell grant them access to...

Spoiler

:
The Darklands

I wonder if I can make the trip into the darklands so scary that they won't go in.....
they didn't fight malfeshnakor for fear of tpk

lol, I'm just going to keep that door locked to them for now

Dunno if it's still of interest, but I just read the section in the Magnimar book about

Spoiler:
Ethran and Kaleb Valdemar being addicted by midnight milk and Kaleb being long dead and possessed by an intellect devourer. The alchemist preparing the drug is situated somewhere in Devil's Platter near the Pit. Might use that hook as well and have them than travel to the Darklands.
Oh, and Shriezyx coming out of it!

Ruyan.

I will have to look it up

In the third session of my Runelords campaign, my party took it upon themselves to explore the Old Light, so I had to improvise the whole thing on the spot!

Here's the session write-up.
