Mounted Fighters

Advice

The Animal Companion related classes all get mounts that scale with level.

Is there any way for a Fighter to get a mount sufficient enough to deal with high CR encounters, at least in terms of hit points and saves?

All I can think of is leadership feat and a friendly druid with Awaken regs.

Best bet. 4 levels of cavalier and take horse master at level 6.

1 level of Druid and Boon Companion
1 level of Cavalier and Boon Companion
5 levels of Paladin and Boon Companion
4 levels of Animal domain and Boon Companion
Any other way to get a mount and Boon Companion.

Check the feat out at d20pfsrd.com

You know, there's another good solution. Lots of my players have used it. Just bring lots of remounts. Losing a horse or two...or twenty a la Nathan B Forrest, is just a cost of doing business.

Buying one and using Handle Animal to train it can also lead very far:

But yeah there needs to be an Archetype, that gives a fighter some Mount.

I'm interested in this, because I was confused/vaguely mad when I saw that mounted fighters, dragoon for example, didn't get scaling mounts.

Is there any particular reason you don't want to play a Cavalier?

Take Leadership at 7th level and have an intelligent mount-worthy cohort (such as a centaur) with class levels.

Yeah the lack of a fighter mount always bugged me. More so with the Dragoon. The Roughrider at least has ways to make whatever mount he acquires better.

Boon Companion is a great find, thanks. Hadn't seen that yet.

I also discovered that the knights of the inner sea has rules for using your leadership cohort on a bestial mount. So that works well also.

PC race druids or synthesist summoners make the best mounts since the monstrous cohort rules are completely arbitrary and not at all balanced. A regular summoner who lends you his eidolon is also pretty good, though it will have a poor will save.

For the druid you should get at least a 3rd level cohort, who can use charm animal, wild empathy, and handle animal to get you a somewhat exotic mount with nontrivial HD. If you can max your leadership score he'll be able to become the mount himself when you're level 8. Any large animal you want. Giant Vulture today for overland travel. Dire Hyena or Dire Tiger or Arsinoitherium for combat where flight isn't a concern. Deinonychus when you're somewhere you can't fit a mount. And he can do support spellcasting.

Eidolons or Synthesists are less versatile, but stronger.

Wow, yeah, I guess taking an actual Druid as your cohort is the best way to swing it, but it seems awfully abusive to me. Depends on your GM's take on Leadership I guess. We tend to look poorly on using it in our games.
