Fact or Fiction: Season 5 - The Most Challenging Ever!

Pathfinder Society

4/5

As Season 5 of Society play is nearly upon us, I keep hearing certain rumors and conjecture floating around. The are roughly "Season 5 is going to be the most challenging season yet!", and "season 5 is going to really test your characters and strain them to their max". However, I have never seen any posts alluding to this. And I worry about such hearsay, because it's pushing a lot of players I know to focus upon optimization, optimization, optimization; rather than focusing on other fun ideas they'd enjoy.

So, are these rumors true or not? If they are true, can someone please point me to the direct source from whence these sprang? Thanks in advance!

I'm not aware of any reputable source for this information. MM&J have repeatedly mentioned that nobody except them can speak to the overall difficulty of Season 5.

Hmmm... Bonekeep doesn't seem to have a season number tied to it. So no, there's no evidence yet that season 5 is more or less difficult than season 4.

4-EX is technically a Season 5 scenario.

Hasn't also been said that certain material (Bonekeep, 4-26 "hard mode") are designed to be more difficult than a typical scenario? They are a way to appease those players that want more challenge without killing off all the players that don't.

That being said I think season 5 will probably be in line with what we have seen in season 4.

4/5

Yup, so far, that's pretty much what I expected. No official word stating Season 5 would be harder. Rather, some select few modules/scenarios might ramp things up (or have the option to do so, as in 4-26). Of course, I could also see more scenarios including the 'hard mode' options like Scenario 4-26.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I personally (and I have no information giving me this impression) feel that Season 5 will overall be slightly less difficult than Season 4.

A-ha! There it is, straight from the horse's mouth. Err...something like that.

Consider this myth busted!

From all the posts I have seen of MM&J's implies that Season 4 is a tad more difficult that Season 5. But again this is conjecture on my end.. so I agree with you Andy!! :)

Hard to believe eh? :)

I agree. In the Podcast is was mentioned that people had complained that Season 4 went too far in the hardness direction. This would imply that there is a problem with difficulty that the staff is aware of, which in turn implies they may solve this by toning down Year 5 some.

But this is all just conjecture based on implication.

Conjecture also has it that Aroden did not actually die, but became the Hermit on Hermitage Island and now jobshares the mayorship of Ilizmagorti

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Or maybe it'll be much less challenging than ever.

Easier on the newbies, and driving the munchkins away.

Agreed. But mostly because it doesn't actually exist yet... :P

I've GMed one season 5 scenario, and I've only killed one PC.

What?

The special, tier 1-2, 2d6+5 damage (then doubled by crit) vs. 1st-level rogue.
