Quick question on the cracked pale green prism ioum stone

on attack rolls or saving throws. Price: 4,000 gp.

So do you have to decide when you purchase the stone wheather its for attacks or saves?

I think so (or rather, you decide on item creation and then the purchaser buys the type they want.) Otherwise it ought to tell you when to choose the bonus and how to change your choice.

Looking at the wording of the normal version. It seems clear that it is one OR the other.

If you want both, just grab 2 of them and have 1 set for attack and the other saving throws.
For 8k, that is still quite a bargain. (Considering that most other items cost more.)

Looking at the value, it should be one or the other.
But looking at the text, I'm not really sure. Besides: why would there be two identical ioun stones, doing two very different things? It's not like they ran out of colours or shapes.

Because this is the flawed version of an Ioun stone that grants a bonus to both attack rolls and saving throws. No FAQ is necessary.

I just realized that the regular stone and the flawed version stack with one another. That's pretty awesome.

Well, one could have been "cracked" and the other "chipped". We still have the question: are these actually two different stones, or is it one and the same with a changeable effect?

If you read Seekers of Secrets, it goes into greater depth about inferior quality Ioun Stones. "Cracked" is actually a quality of Ioun Stone. "Chipped" is not.
