Maximizing a summoners evolution pool

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm curious what ways exist to get as many evolution points as possible.

So far I've found
- Be a half elf for the favored class bonus of +1/4 lvls
- Take this half-elf archetype for an additional +1/4 lvls

for a total of 36 points to work with at level 20

Have I missed anything?

As you can see by the archetype I'm not necessarily concerned about limiting the eidolon or trading away other class features, I'm just trying for the largest possible evolution pool.

Thanks

The extra evolution feat? I would have thought that to be top o' the list.

derp

good call, feeling a little silly just now.

Still interested in any other options that are out there.

Looking at the extra evolution feat it says you can take it at 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th.

Thing is I don't see anyway to get a feat at 20th... lame

anyway assuming that you can take it four times that bumps the maximum total evolution points up to 40.

Anybody able to drive it higher.

- Torger

Yeah, that feat was poorly planned out, not sure what they were thinking... Idk of any other ways. Forty is pretty good though.

*GM smacks you the CRB*

Summoner is not the class to optimize.

It's called making provision for the days of 21st and up play.

*Owwww* Stopit!

I'm just testing the limits. I'm curious to see how far it goes. Not something I have any real plans on playing. This is more of a thought experiment.

So make the feat takeable once per four levels and be done with it. there's no need to taunt us with mentions of 20th level feats we can never have.

One shameless thread bump before I assume the highest possible evolution pool is 40 points.

Sorry dude, didn't getting hit with the CRB tell you anything?

There is a WAY overpowered feat in eidolons unbound called fabulous beasts, it's 3rd party but if Dm allows, then take it.

it gives 3 evolution points, +1 every 4 levels, so level 20 brings it to 48 points.

And that is why there is NO third party in my campaigns.

I would say don't forget the evolution surge spells. Sure, they aren't permanent boosts, but they can be the right boost at the right time.

Holy Jebus. Even if this were a character I was planning on playing there's no way any of my DMs would every let that fly.

Thanks for the heads up though.

For sure, definitely keeping that in the pipe.

Might be an interesting idea for a magic item if you are allowed to brainstorm/create your own.

Summoner's Ring, Lesser (add 2 evolution points)
Summoner's Ring (add 4 evolution points)
Summoner's Ring, Greater (add 6 evolution points)

Something like that with Forge Ring and the Evolution Surge spells as prereq's with a comparable caster level.

Possibly something I'd allow in my game if the PC had the ability to craft it himself (no cheeze with cohort craft-bunnies), and presented it to me.

Maybe not the solid answer you were seeking, but a trail to follow if all leads go cold.

Best of luck!

Those sound like pretty reasonable custom items.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sovereign Court

In Eidolons Unbound, you can also opt to give your Eidolon a weakness at first level. The benefit of doing this is a permanent increase in your Eidolon's evolution pool by 4 points. Thus, the maximum size of the evolution pool available to a summoner at level 20 is 52 according to the information in this thread.

Is that a Paizo book? Also, what kind of weakness is it?

Not Paizo... it's 3rd Party. I think it's SGG, but don't take that to the bank. It's not in Paizo's style to make supplements dedicated to one feature of one class.

Couldn't you retrain into the Extra Evolution feat at 20th-level thereby allowing you meet the prerequisite?

Yup.
