They get wild shape at 6th, and when they wild shape, they treat what they can wild shape into as their druid level-2(beast shape 1 for shamans), but if they wild shape into their totem animal, they treat their druid level as 2 higher(beast shape 2 or 3). it also affects the duration for how long you can maintain wild shape accordingly.

Actually... although this is not what the designer had planned... without any new errata which may or may not be out there...
they get the totem thing at 2... then they get normal wildshape at 4... then at level 6 it jumps to huge for their totem animal and stays at 4 for anything else...
Specifically because it does -not- say it replaces the normal wildshape gained at level 4, only that at level 6 it modifies how it works.
Note, this is not how the writer of the archetype planned it, but it is how it was written and published.

Well, that's true. So, for a level 4 or 5 shaman, WildShape works as per a standard druid, or he doesn't have the ability at all.
For a level 6 Shaman, it works like this: A level (6-2) 4 Druid can wildshape once per day. A level (6+2) 8 Druid can wildshape 3 times per day. So, the level 6 Shaman can Wildshape 3 times per day, but only one of those times can be into a non-totem form.
His Wildshape lasts 4 hours as a small or medium animal, and works like Beast Shape 1, as per a level 4 Druid, when he changes into a non-totem form.
His Wildshape lasts 8 hours as a diminutive to huge animal, and works like Beast Shape 3, as per a level 8 Druid, when he changes into his totem form.
Note that he does not have the elemental or plant wild shape options of an 8th level Druid, or the elemental options of a 6th level Druid.

That.
Yes Jason Nelson has told us on numerous occasions how he intented it the actual RAW seems to work like TGMaxMaxer said.
