Lining up a ranged sneak shot

Rules Questions

On p. 173 of the Core Rulebook, under the topic of "Smashing an Object" there is the line that states "Furthermore, if you take a full-round action to line up a shot, you get an automatic hit with a melee weapon and a +5 bonus on attack rolls with a ranged weapon".

My question is whether or not such a bonus might apply under SOME, very specific, combat encounters. Namely: the target is motionless (a guard posted rather than patrolling) and the target is completely unaware of the attacker.

It seems reasonable that the FIRST shot from a bow, while hidden, would stand a greater chance of hitting a still target than the same shot in the heat of battle. I know that a living enemy is not the same as "smashing a target", but I also think the concept has merit for first shots against unaware, immobile targets. This is far more useful with ranged attacks than with melee attacks, but I suppose the question would be valid for both types.

Thoughts?

I think them being flat-footed represents enough of a penalty already, and NPCs are unpredictable, they could move at any point in time, which can mess up your shot. Walls however, don't move at all, unless acted on by an outside force.

No. As previous poster mentioned, the target is flat-footed against you. Meaning they loose their dex bonus to AC.

Even if I'm unaware of you, that still doesn't give you the right to objectify me.

Wow...why didn't I think of putting it like that?
