Inheritor's Smite

Silver Crusade

So someone on these forums recently pointed out the spell Inheritor's Smite. Apparently, it's from the Council of Thieves Adventure Path, and it's PFS legal. A swift action spell that gives +5 to hit is pretty nice, even before the free bull rush attempt.

But since there's no Golarion fluff on the SRD, and I don't own the book yet (yes, I'm considering buying it just for access to this spell in PFS), can someone tell me if there's any fluff associated with this one that I should know about? Given the name of the spell, I'm assuming it's related to Iomedae. Are clerics and paladins required to be her worshipers to have access to this spell or can anyone take it?

The spell is introduced in an article on Iomedae, and it features the "(Iomedae)" disclaimer next to "cleric 2, paladin 2". The spell also uses Iomedae's name in its description ("You channel the power of Iomedae ...").

So, it's certainly an Iomedae-centric spell.

That said, several other spells from similar deity-articles have lost their deity-specificness when reprinted, so the same might happen to this spell as well.

They didn't loose it, when D20PFSRD started selling goods from their website they had to remove any non-OGL material (which included specific names like gods, and certain setting materials) in order not to be in violation. I believe there had been some agreement between Paizo and the owners of D20PFSRD to allow for the usage of those materials prior to the website becoming a store for RPG goods.

Inheritor's Smite.

I suggest checking out Archives of Nethys site so that you can see the Golarion-Specific stuff. Even does a good job of being up to date on keeping track what's PFS legal.

Indeed - the Community Use Policy.

However Are was correct that there have been reprinted spells that are no-longer restricted to the original deity (such as the accursed infernal healing).

Thankfully, Inheritor's Smite is not one of them - it's for worshipers of Iomedae only.

Silver Crusade

Thanks. That's exactly the extra detail I was looking for.

Now I just have to decide if my battle oracle, who thinks he was cursed by devils, but was actually cursed by Iomedae, would take this as a known spell. Given the nature of his oracle curse (he doesn't have a choice in the matter), it could work.

He would have to actually worship Iomedae. As long as that's true, you're covered.

Silver Crusade

Does he have to? That's obviously true for clerics and paladins, but oracles don't require a deity.

As I said, he gets his power from Iomedae, but he doesn't know it yet. I have ideas of how I want the character to evolve over time, including eventually realizing the source of his power and eventually embracing her worship. But he's nowhere near there yet.

Oracles aren't required to worship a deity, but the spell requires that you worship Iomedae. It is not considered to be on your class spell list if you do not.

Yes, that was indeed what I was referring to; I figured there would be a decent chance that the same thing could happen to this spell if it's ever reprinted.
