Special Power (attracting Cohorts)

Rules Questions

The Exchange

What counts as Special Powers when attracting Cohorts?
Take barbarian...
Is it fast movement, trap sense, uncanny dodge, rage powers etc?

I suppose it depends - at least in part - on the setting. Having Barbarian powers in a nation of barbarians isn't going to attract any fanbois or -grlz.

Another thing to keep in mind is "demonstrability"; Uncanny Dodge for instance isn't something that you can show off easily, but Fast Movement is. In a nation where races are held in high regard, that's definitely a "Special Power".

The Exchange

I was hoping it would be more cut and dried than that, If that was the case, in a land full of Barbarians none of his powers would be special would they?

Since it's in a list of your reputation, I have always read "special power" as you're a prince, or an army general, or a high mage, or something like that. Not that you have a special power, but that you are a special power.

The Exchange

Hmm two different answers, is there anywhere that actually states what a special power is and maybe a list?

Liberty's Edge

I'll give you a third. I've always interpreted this pretty PC friendly. Since most people don't have a PC class at all, being a PC means you have a Special Power compared to most people.

You can command the forces of magic, invoke your god's name to powerful effect, slay giants and dragons single-handedly, and sneak into the most carefully guarded places in the world. You are impressive. I want to follow you.

I'd argue that simply by being PC's you have special power.

Edit: Ninja'd by a sweater!

Yes - but which ones - all of them in the special column of the class tables or just some of them that can be easily seen with the eyes, so the cohort is impressed by them.

The world literally revolves around them. I don't know that it gets much more special than that.
