Does mithral medium armor reduce speed just the same as a normal medium armor?
So the barbarian can't keep 40ft speed if wearing medium armor no matter what material it's made of?
When you make a normally Medium armor out of mithril, it is treated as Light armor. A barbarian can use Fast Movement while wearing Light armor.

Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing mithral full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor’s check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving.

Depending on the barbarian and circumstances, possibly.
A creature with a base movement speed of 30' that possesses the Fast Movement (Ex) barbarian class ability that is wearing medium armor made out of mithral and not carrying a heavy load and whose speed is not otherwise modified would have a speed of 40 feet.

Int was 16 but I gave up 2 points to other players, by GM's decree I could since I rolled so ultra well.
He will become a leader of some raiding northern force one day and a chieftain. (who will want to become caliph in the caliph's place.)
Or I will smash other puny barbarian's faces then.

I should confess though that my half-orc barbarian wears a mithril breastplate and wields a raper. No one makes fun of him either, except the other players.

Yeah they are, never rolled better. Ironically I'm taking heavy influence from Leman Russ the primarch of space wolves.

Sounds cool, but good luck enchanting it if he wasn't born masterwork-quality.

You could always just get masterwork transformation cast on him. Then enchant it as normal.
