Assistance for a Rise of the Runelords character

Advice

Hello, forums! I've a request for a bit of advice for a build. I like to think of myself as experienced, but all of the character building I've been doing for a long time has been theoretical, and I haven't seen gameplay in quite a while.

I'm trying to build a Pathfinder Chronicler for a Rise of the Runelords game beginning next week, and while I have an idea of how I want to get there, I'd like some advice on where to go after getting into the PrC. I know at least two of the characters we have in the party will be an Elf Fighter and Drow Sorcerer, and at least one other player can be counted on to make a heavy damage dealer.

My plan thus far has been to use Cavalier [Honor Guard] as my base and focus on Aid Another, specifically through using a longspear and the Bodyguard feat, and using the mount to quickly move around the battlefield, in addition to grabbing a level of Arcane Duelist so that I can later pass out "scrolls" of Bladethirst through Epic Tales.

My build:
Aasimar (small-sized, for character reasons, I understand that this is non-optimal), 25 point buy
Strength 14, Dexterity 15, Constitution 13, Intelligence 12, Wisdom 13+2, Charisma 14+2

Cavalier (Honor Guard) 1: Flagbearer, Lookout
Cavalier 2
Cavalier 3: Combat Reflexes, Bodyguard
Cavalier 4
Bard (Arcane Duelist) 1: <need a feat here> , Arcane Strike
Pathfinder Chronicler 1
Pathfinder Chronicler 2: Horse Master

Traits: Helpful (Halfling, allowed by GM), Armor Expert

Criticism and advice would be lovely. Thank you!

Battlefields in rise of the runelords are very cramped so you may have issues.

If you are going to be using a mount, you need mounted combat, for all the mounted feats.

A really, really useful feat is called Rhino Charge, which allows you to ready a charge action, which will be invaluable

I had heard beforehand that it could be a problem, which figured into my decision to go for a small character. Is it really that bad?

I am running a mounted fury barbarian, only done the first book but everywhere has been tiny and cramped. I am sure there will be open spaces but you really have to adapt to the area.

The solution of being small is good, I am a gnome barbarian, but yeah, it is still tough

The first two parts of Rise are quite cramped. It gets better around level 7-8, but the first six levels would be painful with a large mount.

Being small sidesteps most of the problem, but I'd strongly recommend not going for a large mount.

Planned on using a dog when I can. :3

This may be a bit late, but wanted to throw my thoughts in here.

I'm actually running a ROTR campaign with a mounted character (a witch on a Roc, which by the way is absolutely terrifying for a DM :) ). As has been said, you'll have some problems in the first few parts, but there will be parts where having a mount will be useful. Overall though it looks like a fun and interesting build.

That being said, since you're going bard you may want to invest in UMD and get a wand of carry companion or hosteling armor. Either will help dramatically when you have to go underground or in tight spaces. The medium mount will help as well.

Or if you don't want to bother with a mount you could go huntmaster instead of honor guard, but that will change the basics of the character.

Also, do you have access to the Animal Archive book? If so you may want to take the animal archetype charger for your mount.

Finally, for your unused feat you may want to take Eldritch Heritage (arcane) and get a familiar. You can use the valet animal archetype for it to get additional ways to aid your allies or you can choose combat expertise to free up swift aid later.

Would you believe I had overlooked Swift Aid? Thank you for pointing that one out. x3
