Ioun Stones In PFS

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I remember someone mentioning that Ioun stones can be placed in Pathfinder Wayfinder, is that true?

If the above is true, how many Ioun stones can a Pathfinder Wayfinder hold?

Also, what’s the benefit of paying 24,000 gp for a stone of +2 to INT, when you can just buy a head band for 36,000 gp to give you +6 INT, or if you really want to be a stickler, 16,000gp for a +4 INT bonus.

Silver Crusade

I thought the +2 stones were only 8000 gp? Still double the price of +2 belt/headbands, but not as bad as you said.

The advantage is that you can have multiple stat boosting stones. I have a barbarian with a +6 strength belt, +2 dex stone, and +2 con stone. It's cheaper than trying to upgrade them all on the belt at the same rate, and lets me get the most important one up faster than the other two. Remember that the stones don't stack with the belts/headbands.

Only one stone can be placed in a normal Wayfinder, but I think there's a variant Wayfinder that can hold two. When the stone is in the Wayfinder, you get an additional bonus. All the details on this stuff is in Seeker of Secrets.

The Exchange

Yes, one but the expensive ones hold more, you have the wrong prices.

Wayfinders This should answer any questions you may have. There are lots of different kinds that do different things.

The benefits are: 1) Wayfinders sometimes give additional benefits for those ioun stones. 2) Sometimes you'd rather use a headband slot for something else.

Hope that helps.

Silver Crusade

For PFS, remember you have to have a legal source for the item. Seeker of Secrets is out of print, but the PDF is still available. This gives you all the rules for Ioun stones, including wayfinder resonant abilities, so you can show the GM at the table how they work.

Well, I read the Ioun Stone of +2 INT that can stack with 2 others for a total of +6 as costing 24,000. Its some sort of a Red or Ruby stone, so I don't know what's up with the pricing of these things.

Either way, it seems that buying a +2 to INT/WIS/CHA will cost you 4,000+6,000+6,000 for a total of 16,000gp while buying 3 Ioun stones of +2 will cost 24,000gp. Are there such a thing as +6 stones?

Its priced with the assumption you are going to stack it to maximum +6 and with the 100% cost increase for being a slotless magic item. Thus it cost 72,000gp for a +6 stat (via 3*24,000gp ioun stones) ie 2x the cost of the 36,000 +6 stat headband or belt.
