Help fill in citizens in a lycanthrope village

Homebrew and House Rules

Hey all

I need a smallish village with 90% were creatures... The village is on the coast in a warm temperate forresty area...

The village is known in lycantrop groups as a safe haven

Many ppl in the village want the village to be kind of secret to avoid problems, but some want to bring the troubles to Hunan cities...

How many ppl should be in each profession?
Wich were type suits each profession best?
Any professions that's more of amust have,or no go?

Apart from the usuals such as a "doctor", town leader and a midwife, must haves in a coastal village would be carpenter, fisher, roper. Probably a cooper too, depending on the size of the town.

I was thinking 300ish adults, and a number of kids... Thinking some were types might get a litter....

Don't forget the Barber.

Check here.

Small brothel with worshippers of Calistria wouldn't be too off probably. Worshippers of besmara if they do any work in the sea. Oddly enough no worshippers of the were-wolf queen, she has a mandate about treating anyone who isn't a were-wolf as prey.

The Fischers should ofc be a mix of were-sharks, were-alligators and were-turtles... "normal" farmers is prob. Were-boars... A herbalist I see as a were-bear...any suggestions on were type of other professions?

Were-giraffe scout. He's unusually good at hiding in trees.

How does this sound for proportions?

50% in food production (eg. hunting, fishing, farming)
10% in food processing (eg. miller, butcher, baker)
20% everyday craftsman (eg. carpenter/boatbuilder, tanner/leatherworker, weaver/ropemaker, blacksmith, potter)
1-2 Priests
1-2 Healers (eg. herbalist, midwife, barber-surgeon)
1 Chandler (general store, odds and ends)
1 Inn/tavern

OK, selkies (Were seals) make good fisher persons.
A pack of true were wolves may be the watch. A case of the gunfighter becomes the sheriff.
If you want to go with a cliche, Miss Kitty is a were tiger. A standard were Fox would make a good "Dance hall girl" because she can only reproduce by contagen, and then only with young girls.

Shouldn't Miss Mitty be a were-Cougar?
;-)

Huh, where is this from if I can ask?

I don't know the reference but this town could easily turn into a fun or a horrifying place very quickly...

Were-bears would make some awesome enforcers I think. Big and scary. Were-tigers are fantastic hunters, pounce and large size. I built a were-tiger Fiendish totem barbarian once and I wouldn't put the thing up against anyone.

The AD&D Were Fox was drowning in card rules. Female only, barren, ect.
Miss Kitty was from Gunsmoke. Perfect example of how to clean up something so the censors won't freak out.

Silver Crusade

In pathfinder, werefoxes tend to be elves, and that's about all that's know about them.

Wereraven scouts could be useful.
I can see a grumpy were-badger smith.
Were-ferret theives?

The were weasels are the theives. Were-Ferrets are good guys. They ferret out the Were-Weasels and Were-Rats.
If you can find a book store, go to the manga section and find "Peach Fuzz". It's a story told from the point of view of a pet Ferret.

Werehamster and weregopher farmers. Wererat family takes care of the junkyard and septic pit.

The 'Old Man X' should be a were tortoise.

Liberty's Edge

Kinda relevant. There was a 3rd edition D&D module that involved a village of animals that had been turned into humans and halflings. Can't think of the name, and all my books are packed atm. I seem to recall a lot of smaller animals, maybe not suitables weres, but could be a useful point in the right direction.

Liberty's Edge

Don't forget a lumberjack, supplying wood for the carpenter and firewood for the town.

How cheeky is it be to make the lumberjack a werewolf lord, so the woodsman is the big bad wolf.

Or, you know, a werebeaver.

Molly: A shy child werewolf girl in a threadbare pink dress carrying around a teddywerewolf.
In human form she's shy, but when she transforms she scares were's twice her size.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Steve: totally not a lycanthrope at all, but has to pretend he loves eating raw meat and junk cuz if anyone finds out he's F@#@ED!

The undertaker is obviously a were-vulture, even though the were-jackal is trying to move in on his business.

Does he know he isn't a werewolf? In The Name of the Rose, they found an old medical book with an entry about how to spot someone who was starting to act like a wolf.
