Or (I must be crazy) if you'd like to possibly join in on project to create a new game world for pathfinder (that I will eventually be trying to turn 3PP) PM me, I'll give you my email and some parameters, if I like your stuff maybe we can work together if not I'll give you feedback to get better (be aware I do not pull punches.)

Hey, if you are really interested in doing what the top 4 are doing, there's the Pathmaster writing contest.

Plenty of opportunity out there!

Made two of these deadlines :)
Started on the third and realized it should have been first. This is the second of Wolfies in a row I have not entered.
OK... back to my PFS Quest submission.

Simple question. Which 3rd party publishers are willing to look at the work of unpublished authors.

Best way to find out is to visit their websites. Check for tags mentioning open positions, freelancing opportunities, etc. Then check out their guidelines.

For example.

If the site doesn't have any of that info available, it never hurts to shoot them an email and just ask.

Adventure a week take submissions.

Rite publishing has the Dungeon magazine successor Adventure Quarterly though I'm not sure about their writer guidelines/acceptance. Read their submission guidelines here.

Gygax magazine perhaps for Dragon magazine/Kobold Quarterly type articles.

Depending on the type of proposals would simply ask or send a pitch to a publisher with a fitting/similar line.

Kobold Press takes submissions that aren't contest related. I just wrote something, and submitted. They liked it enough to add It here, which was awesome of them. I edited mine a few tiomes before sending it in, read dozens of pages to make sure my content fit their site and wasn't a rehash of other content. If you have the will you can get a toe in the door.

Also read my article dammit :p

Congratulations on getting published on the KQ website! I enjoyed your article.

The KQ website was one of the first places I got published, and it really helped me grow as a writer.

Great article!

I never realized what I was doing when modifying some of those monster races, and this article has prompted further ideas. Most importantly, it has elicited the why I'm doing it...aside from changing an old hat creature.

Thanks for the feedback guys I have 2 more on the way and if it works out I get to keep doing it. I just found out about this contest this year, rushed a submission and ever since I've been learning. Its like this, if you have passion and you're willing to work for something you can accomplish your goals. I'm not by any means living the dream of making a living writing for the hobby I love, but I feel like I have a toe in the door.

Determination and the willingness to work for it = getting results. If I can do it you can do it.

You should go vote. Jason Lee (see above) is in the top 5. I think I recognize the others but not without their avatars :)

It's Jeff, but thanks for the mention. ;-)

The advice I always give is to keep an eye on the "Compatible Products from Other Publishers" forum on the Paizo website. Occassionally a 3PP will put out a call for freelancers there (both Raging Swan Press and Rite Publishing have in the past). Also, some 3PPs do patron projects and offer up a chance to pitch/submit ideas. I have not had the chance to do a Kobold Press one, but Zombie Sky Press did "It Came from the Stars" in the same patron model which lead to me getting work from them. All else I can say is that with patience and perserverance, luck will go your way.

Thank you much. Working on a selection of themed spells for Wolfgang now that I'm hoping he likes and will see the light of day.

Fantasy fiction rather than RPG work, but I thought it might be of interest. (Ladies only, I'm afraid)

Recently made successful contact with Tricky Owlbear they are definitely a good place to send things. They want player focused material which is at least for us old hat GMs a little harder. The post is from Jan 2012 but they are still open.

Open Gaming Monthly is also looking for all kinds of content.
