Character traits and Relationships

Jade Regent

I'm about to start this AP with a few friends of mine and a very real possibility crossed my mind: PCs start with two traits, if they devote both traits to a single NPC, should I allow them to gain the +4 bonus to that characters relationship for each trait or just one?

Trait bonuses don't stack with each other and you should give players only one campaign trait and one general trait ( from the APG ), not two campaign traits.

I can understand your viewpoint, I'd personally allow 2 campaign traits (as sort of a way to ensure that a character is invested in aiding friends) but I think I should limit 1 campaign trait to 1 major NPC (for example, can't have best friend to Ameiko AND childhood crush with her)

If you're doing away with the restriction on "can't have more than one trait from a particular category" then limiting them to only having one trait per NPC is probably the way to go.

Just remember that the Campaign Traits are designed under the assumption that the PCs won't be taking more than one. Fair enough if you want to waive that limit, just keep it in mind if things start getting a little wonky later on in the AP. Dunno if they will or not, just covering my bases.
