Or should that be, "the Imperial Heroes *are* here"? :)

Either way, Neil Spicer's latest contribution to making the gaming world just a little bit more awesome is here at last. The long-awaited follow-up to his hit Gothic Heroes, Imperial Heroes likewise brings you face to face with eight mind-blowingly detailed NPCs. Not just stats, not just a personal history, but connections between one another and the primary NPCs in the Far East AP, scaling notes for 20-point and 15-point buy, level advancement notes up through 4th level, feats, traits, equipment, archetypes... are we excited yet? ... all woven together with the deft skill of a master of his craft, a real, live Superstar.

We're excited to bring this product to you, and just as excited at what's coming next. More previews just keep coming (last night was our 16th in a row, every business day), more new product next week. It's a good time to be in the market for awesome gaming materials, because you've come to the right place!

As always, Make Your Game Legendary.

It's been a long time coming, but I think this one turned out pretty awesome.

Sovereign Court

I actually was about the post that correction to the title.

Does it include an androgynous blonde fighter named Siegfried who wields a massive Zweihander and has 11 pages of backstory covering the last 4 seasons of the anime *and* the OAVs? :)

I'd totally play that one. Or his evil demonic duplicate spawned from the possession of the ancient evil artifact sword...

I am feeling utterly clueless right now. :)

Woo! Thanks Liz!

I do believe they're referring to the Soul Calibur fighting game series, which has traditionally featured warriors from 16th-century Europe and Asia colliding with each other.

Thanks for the info. I probably would've guessed video game reference if put to the question, but I couldn't have guessed which in a million years.

Though I should note that Ragnar does have a BFS, so maybe he is a little video gamey! :)

Sorry for a bit of thread necromancy, but...

...has anyone else run into occasional rule-legality issues, or is anyone able to explain to me where I'm screwing up? *sheepish grin*

I *love* these pregen characters. I *loved* Gothic Heroes, and I *love* Imperial Heroes - and I'm damned well going to be buying every single bloody thing Legendary Games are putting out...but I've noticed that Masato's feats and abilities seem a bit off - at least in two spots.

1) As a 1st level monk, he has a BaB of +0, but he also has Weapon Focus (unarmed strike), which IIRC has a prerequisite of BaB +1

2) He is listed as having normal attacks with the wushu darts, but wushu darts require Martial Weapon Proficiency, and aren't on the weapon list for monks.

Am I missing something? Again, I'm not overly concerned, because it's easy enough to fix, but I thought I'd mention it - or at least find out if I've made an error somewhere...

No worries.

Great!

Not so great on our part. :-(

This was an oversight which (for some reason) the spreadsheet I use to build each character doesn't catch as a prerequisite for Weapon Focus. I'll have to see what we can do about addressing this with Jason so we can post a corrected version. For now, I'd recommend swapping out Weapon Focus for Crushing Blow. That's the 3rd level feat recommended in his advancement notes, but it has no prerequisites he can't already fulfill at 1st level. Then, replace Crushing Blow as his 3rd level feat in the advancement notes with Weapon Focus (unarmed strike). The idea here is to elevate Masato's melee attacks with whatever feats and abilities you can to make him a more potent martial artist in combat.

I'm less sure about this one. The table for Eastern Weapons in Ultimate Combat identifies the wushu darts as a monk weapon for the purposes of flurry of blows. The shuriken is identified as such under the Exotic Weapons in the Core Rulebook, as well. So, I took that to mean that wushu darts are "monk weapons" in the same vein as shuriken and other monk weapons, even though there's no way to go back and update the monk weapons list in the class description of the monk in the Core Rulebook. So, for me, I think I'd leave this one unchanged. If you're really concerned, however, you can easily swap them out for shuriken.

But that's just my two cents,

I'd agree with Neil that it's kind of lame that the "monk weapons" issue hasn't been dealt with very satisfactorily in the core rules. I understand the RAW; I just think it's silly that as new weapons that have the "monk" property are introduced into the game, they're not added to the list of monk-proficient weapons.

As for the feats, inverting the order of those first two feats sorts out the problem easily enough.

Also, for everyone's enjoyment, check out the latest review from Endzeitgeist, mirrored on our website. I'm sure it'll be showing up here in a day or two, but in case you want to check it out on his site first, here it is! Happy reading!

Little more thread necro here: but I've got and love both Gothic Heroes and Imperial Heroes, I am legitimately wondering if you plan on doing something similar with ALL of the Adventure Paths like this (the pregen NPCs)

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

Slowly but surely. Yes. Maybe not all of them, but hopefully many of them. We've got Conquering Heroes in the works right now...which is suitable for a certain kingdom-building campaign. And I'm about halfway through another for an as-yet unannounced series of AP plug-ins. More on that one later.

Dark Archive

Have you considerd making a catfolk Pregen for any of the AP plug ins?

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

Oh...I have lots of plans regarding quite a few different races. The ARG is quite inspiring, after all. ;-)

So now I have all three of the 'Heroes' books out, I noticed that only Conquering Heroes has ages listed for the characters, how old would each of the Imperial Heroes be by the time they escort the Destined Empress?

RPG Superstar 2009, Contributor

Putting an age on the pregens is something I started focusing on this go-around...and something I intend to keep doing as I go forward. The only place it really makes a difference (in terms of background planning) is when I'm dealing with a longer-lived race than the norm. And, since at least half of the pregen cast is usually non-human, it's become important to identify that. Plus, even in Gothic Heroes, I put one of the PCs at middle-aged, so it's important to consider it going forward.

That said, I haven't gone back to computer the ages for the earlier pregens. Some of them indicate their age in their backgrounds. But, if there's nothing there, you should be free to generate their age using the random method outlined in the CRB.
