After buying a scientific calculator...
and a scientist to show me how to use it...
and running the numbers with a CPA...
I'm OK with your new proposed distribution model. I see the fundamental issue as the fact that in these small towns, the available items are limited so we need to 'equip up' as best we can when the opportunity presents itself. So as long as we can buy juicy items using a combo of our personal cash plus either borrowing from other characters or drawing some money from the communal kitty, I think your idea would work.
Skäne Ingvârssonn
Aye that would be ill-omened indeed! Plus the witches and such will presume he's an easily influence fool :) Playing possum gambit lol
Annalísa Finnrsdóttir
I just woke up from a nap, and feel more sleepy than when I laid down. Go figure. If you guys want to pitch in to help Annalisa get something better, that would be awesome. I'll let you decide, then, which item you think will be the most efficient - studded leather or belt - and she will most certainly put it to good use. She is also always more than willing to help out anybody in the same fashion when it's there for her to do so. I'll update her sheet here in a bit when I'm awake enough to not miss anything.

I think I have a pretty good concept to submit for your Solku campaign. Please let us know when/where you put up a recruitment thread or when you'd like to hear our concepts.

I'm hoping to get to a spot to launch the Solku game maybe inside the next couple of weeks. Still need to iron out the lead in and first third of the game so that it runs smoothly.
Feel free to ask questions if you like, but I'll probably not look too deeply until I've actually launched it.
Skäne Ingvârssonn
Skäne needs to ditch his Armoured Kilt to gain the use of his new class ability... any takers? Good Eastern steel :)
Kló
Lol. it's burned into my memory... that's for sure. And Kló's not touching that kilt. Sell it?
Also, Skäne, how many of those axes did you pick up? Let's just include that in this whole gear exchange (on top of the Endure Elements scroll Kló is picking up), then we'll split the remaining coin at the end.

I was hoping you were going to get the Mummy's Mask bug, so I might have a chance at dusting off a certain desert princess. But this is just as good. Tweak some mechanics that weren't quite working and level her up. Adjust her background a bit. Look forward to the application process.
Hilde Alfborne
Sarenrae is big in Solku and I am interested in reflavoring a Sable Company Marine into a Sarenrae ranger. I think a hippogriff would be cool in desert or flame colors.
Would you allow the reflavor?
Black Dow
My basic pitch for the Solku game:
A paragraph description of what your character looks like.
The man before you wears the worn robes of a holy pilgrim, the countenance of a zealot and the brands of a criminal. He both bears the symbol of the Dawnflower and the heavy mace and kite shield of the Crusader. Gaunt of face yet intense of stare is this Westerner. His scalp and face sport an assortment of old scars and new seared marks upon a backdrop of stubbled hair.
Why are you in Solku?
Reformed pesh addict and criminal on a redemption pilgrimage to Sarenrae's Lambent Citadel to gain both her fiery mercy and exorcise past misdeeds through charitable deed and heroic action.
What are your plans for the next seven days?
Same thing each day:
Rise with the dawn.
Scourged absolutions: For excess. For wrath. For guilt.
Cauterized healing: For temperance. For patience. For redemption.
Healing for the poor of city and war.
Support for defenders of city and faith.
Trusting Sarenrae’s light will guide him as he tries to be a better man.
Prayers at dusk.
Scourged absolutions: For excess. For wrath. For guilt.
Cauterized healing: For temperance. For patience. For redemption.
Sleep with the night.
Past nightmares of corrupt smoke.
New dreams of holy fire.
In short - Eat.Sleep.Mortify.Repeat. :)
A summary of how your character will be mechanically built (abilities, class, major character choices).
Still in progress... footnotes following:
Human Cleric of Sarenrae (Merciful Healer/Flagellant Archetypes)
Traits: (Additional Traits feat(s) as required:
Addict (Region)
Criminal (Social)
Fearless Defiance (Faith)
Strength of the Sun (Religion)
Drawback(if allowed): Burned (at own hand) - seems a tough one for a follower of Sarenrae? Balance to the Flagellant archtype? Happy to take another or increase the severity of this??
See what you reckon before I delve too deep into my inner WFRP :)
The Halfhand
Aww snap, I get a feeling the Dawnflower's gonna be popular for this upcoming recruitment. I might have to go back to the drawing board...
Black Dow
Halfhand I'm happy to tweak my character to accommodate a more focussed Dawnflower submission by you (depending what DMVoV thinks of my idea thusfar);
My character could also work as a Cavalier (Order of the Penitent)...
DM - Voice of the Voiceless
PHARASMIN PENITENCE
Somewhere between a schism and an order, the ecclesiastical Pharasmin Penitence adheres to the main tenets of its parent faith but adds a grim fixation on worldly suffering. Penitents believe that suffering in life leads to greater rewards in the afterlife and holds that all pleasure is a distraction. Some members go so far as to become flagellants, depriving themselves of even basic pleasures and constantly seeking their own pain as an offering to Pharasma. Inquisitors commonly follow this philosophy, as it gives them a clear and constant opponent to watch for: overindulgence among their fellow Pharasmins. Penitents typically hail from Ustalav and are judgmental, humorless, and motivated to prove their superior willingness to suffer for their faith.
These guys would seem to fit your dude's world outlook a bit more snugly - even if they are mostly in a different spot of the world.
Either that or Vildeis from Chronicle of the Righteous... she's hard-fecking-core.
Halfhand - not surprising that Sarenrae's popular though. Solku is home to I think the second largest cathedral to the Dawnflower. There's also a reasonable size temple to Iomedae - as well as those of Abadar and Nethys. Though I also think of the religion of Golarion pot-pourri enough to have anyone anywhere with enough of a bit of explanation.
Hilde - on the face of it I don't have any issues with reflavoring... but I'm hesitant given the potential effect on the campaign. Specifically the easy access to all day flying, and what the massively increased relatively risk-free scouting could achieve.
Cearb - I'm also looking forward to Mummy's Mask... but I managed to score an invite to play in a PbP, so I'm taking a break for that AP :P
That said, Noor could easily be flavored into Solku and Katapesh without much trouble.
Black Dow
Interesting... the Pharasmin angle had ducked me altogether... me like... muchness.
Agree had mulled Vildeis but she is nails.
Also downloaded the Flagellent prestige class from Kobold - so might have something to shoot for down the line.
Cheers for the input

Here is a Vildeis Oracle I made.
Hilde Alfborne
I got cut off while editing my above post. I no longer play Aluriel and you are welcome to take any or all of the character that you are interested in. Yes, Vildeis is hardcore, but there are still many things that can be done with her. I played Aluriel with a smash first, ask questions later attitude. She was a lot of fun and makes a good contrast for a paladin. She's willing to go to any length to destroy evil, including the scorched earth destruction of innocents, where a paladin pulls back due to the "lawful" aspect of his nature.
Tons of fun. Hope you find it helpful in some way.
Rikka the Dðcincel
OK, I'm intrigued by the game and I've got a character in mind BUT I have to ask a question or two.
#1 - How strict are you about alignment and behavior, specifically, regarding Paladins? I've a got a brassy, bawdy, and trouble-making maverick female crusader pally of Sarenrae in mind. She's a pain in the ass to her superiors and always on the verge of getting de-frocked by her organization and possibly riding the ragged edge of censure by Sarenrae herself. "Holier than thou" and "Pillar of the Community" are phrases never applied to her. Her heart and motivations are in the right place but she is nobody's good role model and is a bit of a hard case.
I've played variants of her before and the biggest problem has been with DM's that have strict ideas of what Paladins should do and how they must behave. So if you are pretty set in how you think Paladins should be played, I won't even toss in her application, it will likely end in frustration for both of us.
DM - Voice of the Voiceless
Sarenrae The paladins of the Dawnflower are fierce warriors, like
their goddess. They provide hope to the weak and support
to the righteous. Their tenets include:
- I will protect my allies with my life. They are my light and my strength, as I am their light and their strength. We rise together.
- I will seek out and destroy the spawn of the Rough Beast. If I cannot defeat them, I will give my life trying. If my life would be wasted in the attempt, I will find allies. If any fall because of my inaction, their deaths lie upon my soul, and I will atone for each.
- I am fair to others. I expect nothing for myself but that which I need to survive.
- The best battle is a battle I win. If I die, I can no longer fight. I will fight fairly when the fight is fair, and I will strike quickly and without mercy when it is not.
- I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by the sword.
- I will not abide evil, and will combat it with steel when words are not enough. I do not flinch from my faith, and do not fear embarrassment. My soul cannot be bought for all the stars in the sky.
- I will show the less fortunate the light of the Dawnflower. I will live my life as her mortal blade, shining with the light of truth.
- Each day is another step toward perfection. I will not turn back into the dark.
So the measure of 'paladiny-ness' is partially measured against that as a yardstick. From what you intimate of 'brassy, bawdy and trouble-making' doesn't seem on the face of it to conflict with any of the tenets - so I wouldn't have a problem with it.
It's only if the actions deviate from the core of Sarenrae tenets that it becomes an issue.

I've arrived at something I'm really happy with.
Instead I'm looking at a wealthy Katapeshi merchant, an evoker. As soon as that discussion thread goes up I'll move everything from my notepad to the forums, but for now I'd like to keep a lid on it all. I'm going on a brief camping trip tonight. I doubt it'll put too much of a dint in my posting, but if I'm abnormally quiet go ahead and bot me. I'm looking forward to this recruitment!

In the meantime:
Fahada stands 5'9" and weighs 135 lbs. Her straight hair hangs to her waist, and like her eyes, most would call it black but when the sun shines on her it can be seen that both are a very deep indigo. Her smooth, flawless skin is the color of burnt sugar. She has a stunning smile that tends to put people at ease.
Fahada arrived in Solku with a caravan that hired her on as an acting guard. She has no particular ties to this place, nor to any other place for that matter since the loss of her lover. She suppose she will rest here for a couple of days before finding another caravan looking for a guard, or perhaps she might find a local job, something at a tavern perhaps. Anything to keep her busy.
Mechanics wise she's a half-elf rogue, and her second favored class is sorcerer (though I haven't given her a level for it yet). She is CG, her stronger points are charisma based skills and traps. IDK what else you want to know about her, but you can read her sheet as it is and ask whatever questions!

Gong Xi Fa Cai! - I'm at day one of a five day weekend, and ran out of time tonight for updating the RoW threads. Shall endeavor to get to them tomorrow after I get back from an open house and potentially some yee sang.
As an aside - if you were looking for some new Asian Nomadic Folk Metal then here is your band!

I like being rewarded!
I posted my character in your recruitment thread and hope you are willing to give it a read despite his being a gnoll. I know that you preferred core races, but I saw a few elemental kin in the submissions and felt I might be able think outside the box a bit. I've given good reasons why he is 1) Chaotic Good and 2) not killed on sight.
I invite anyone interested to please check it out and let me know what you think. I really like the character, but then, it's my head he sprang from.
Bastagar Swiftthicket
I'd planned to have Bastagar learn vanish from the household fey and tail Nadya today. I'd forgotten how underwhelming Sorcerer 2 is as a level... I guess they can teach me mending instead? It's only a few more levels two before Bastagar could drug her, alter self to steal her shape, and go in her stead. I'm kind of wishing I'd picked up a scroll of that rather than glitterdust now. I'd forgotten it allows a save/round now and it didnt really manage to save our skin against that troll like I would have hoped...
Level 3 - Sorcerer: Stealth +13, Disable Device +9, Escape Artist +9, Knowledge (arcana) +7, UMD+9; +1 Fort +1 Will, mending
All that's left is my feat choice. Probably any one of Improved Initiative, Toughness or Arcane Armour Training. They're not sexy, but they'll keep Bastagar alive for future mischief. As for stocking up on gear, what have we looted since Heldren?
Hilde Alfborne
I have looked at Hilde's feat (she only has one) since I made the character.
Angelic Blood - Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against effects with the evil descriptor and on Constitution checks to stabilize when you are reduced to negative hit points (but not dead). Furthermore, each time you take bleed or blood drain damage, each undead creature or creature with the evil subtype that is currently adjacent to you also takes 1 point of damage.
I'd initially planned to go all the way to steel wings that I could attack with (ala Archangel the X-Man) at level 11. Considering that we've been playing forever and a day now, and are just hitting level 3, this might not be an ideal plan.
I can see what you're thinking however - that looks like a pretty good feat for a paladin, so you should keep it, even if you change your goal. That was certainly my first thought, and then I found this in the SRD:
Actual spells with the Evil descriptor - Animate Dead, Blasphemy, Contagion, Create Greater Undead, Create Undead, Curse Water, Death Knell, Defile Armor, Desecrate, Dispel Good, Divine Vessel, Follow Aura, Magic Circle against Good, Malediction, Nightmare, Pain Strike, Protection from Good, Retribution, Shadow Projection, Symbol of Pain, Unhallow, Unholy Aura, Unholy Blight.
Needless to say, I don't see a situation where I could ever take advantage of that feat...well....ever.
So, if you don't mind, I'd like to replace the feat for free or retrain it for 100 gp and 5 days training.
Assuming that's a yes, I'm going to do some research on how to make her more defensively oriented. She's got two feats now that we've gone up a level and I'll see what's out there to help hold bad guys in one spot.

At high levels, Blasphemy has a tendency to show-up more often than you think... there are a *lot* of summoned outsiders or half-fiends that have it as a spell-like ability, and generally speaking, if you fail the save, you are screwed :-/
That said, I agree that at low levels, you tend not to get a lot of mileage out of it.
Personally, I am planning to take 'Diehard' as my level 3 feat :-P
Snjórinn Verkirsson
Level 3:
+1 level of Witch
+1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 hit points
+1 Fort, +1 Ref
+1 2nd level spell slot (+1 for high Con)
+1 Feat (Diehard)
Spells Known: Alter Self, False Life
Skills: +1 Intimidate, +1 Knowledge(Arcana), +1 Perception

I will certainly revisit it if we make it that far. My initial vision had been a Valkyrie like character attacking with sword, shield, and steel wings. Even in the best of worlds, that can't happen until 11th level which looks to be six years away at our current pace. That's a long time for a payout that is mostly cool visually.
I'm looking at exactly what I need to be a sword/shield twf paladin. This will hopefully give me a good AC with enough damage to be worth fighting back against. Lunge at 6th level or Enlarge Person can then enable me to hold people in place.
Hilde Alfborne
I've worked out what I'd like to do with Hilde and will update to third level tomorrow. While I'm redoing her character sheet however, can we sell the loot that we've gotten so far? Does anyone know how much it is?
The Halfhand
Guh. I can't decide what to do with this level-up. I want Toppling Spell, but it kinda seems like a waste when a Metamagic Rod of it could be a possibility in the future...
What sorts of feats do wizards take these days?
