Focused Shot precision bonus?

Hi,

Is focused shot bonus damage a precision bonus?

Shadow Lodge

No. It sounds like it should be, but if it's precision damage it will say so, like Precise Strike.

Note that while it isn't precision damage in general it specifically doesn't work on creatures immune to crits and sneak attack.

No it doesn't seem to be precision damage, although it sounds like it should be.
Anyway the feat is almost garbage why are you considering it?

The wording is old from the 3.0 Campaign setting.

Focused Shot would be fun for alchemists that don't want to throw several bombs per round. Sadly, it's not even for firearms.

WHY?

In case they don't want to anything else with their turn than make ONE shot with a bow or a crossbow and then recieve a small bonus to damage?
That is SO circumstantial that it doen't warrant the use of a feat, especially on a feat starved class like the alcemist.

A INT 20 Alchemist

It requires a standard action to use it, just skip it.

Well, if you were a wizard with a high INT, high DEX and want to be able to make use of your mostly single attack without sacrificing spells, then focused shot might be a good thing to do. Maybe add in arcane strike, and for icing on the cake put gravity bow on it you will be rather decent :-P

@Sangalor
Focused shot requires 2 feats (PBS and precise shot), and you suggest eating up your swift action and using another feat (arcane strike) in order to be able to attack with your 1/2 BAB against normal AC in order to do 5-15 (if you hit) at mid levels? spending 4 feats that wizards don't normally take in order to use your action to do 5-15 damage in order to converse spells, at mid levels, are you kidding me?

No, I am only half-kidding.

If you're a wizard focusing on rays you'd have pbs and precise shot anyway. focused shot is just one more feat, and arcane strike is something generally useful.
If you wish, consider that for an EK.

It's all about versatility. But that's beyond this thread I guess :-P

Move action and a D8+5 (+6 up to 30 feet) ranged attack every turn or ...

bomb?
spell?
mele attack?

Scarab Sages

The reason? INT 20 Alchemist with Explosive Missile...

1d8+6 + (2d6+5 fire with splash) at 5th level, or combine with Targeted Admixture for 1d8+6 + (2d6+10 fire with no slash) at 6th level.

While it requires PBS and PS, both of those are also useful for the bomb throwing Alchemist. You'll get plenty of use out of them.

And yes, you'll probably want Precise Bombs.

Mind you, the easiest and least painful path to Focused Shot is multi classing for the Alchemist. Two levels of Fighter (Archer) or two levels of Ranger will do it. Since I have yet to ever see a game go to 20th level, I'm not terribly worried about losing my level 20 alchemist spiffs.

So, it'd be fun for Alchemists that want to suck?

Fast Bombs is required if you intend to throw effectively, and if you're not into throwing bombs, then you aren't spending 3 feats to get some bonus damage, either.

You can't combine them--they both take standard actions to use.

Further, Fast Bombs, seriously. It is always better to throw more than less.

Missed that, you're correct.

I still think an Alchemical Archer would be worth it (range mostly), but yeah, Focused Shot isn't nearly as interesting as I thought.

Grand Lodge

Well, maybe a Forgemaster Cleric, who decides to dip for two levels into Ranger.

I can't think of many other good builds for this.
