Armor Stacking?

Advice

Scarab Sages

If i am wearing armor what items in this list can i use together to maximize armor?

-bracers of armor
-ring of force shield
-amulet of natural armor
-ring of protection

thanks

All of them. Consider replacing the bracers with an armored kilt, and the ring of shields with a buckler. No armor check, or spell failure, as long as you aren't a monk it's a cheaper way to go.

All of them

Armor bonus - Bracers of Armor
Shield bonus - Ring of Force Shield
Natural armor bonus - amulet of natural armor
deflection bonus - ring of protection

they are all different bonuses

Do note that the bracers of armor won't stack with normal armor (you'll just get the better bonus.)

And by normal armor you mean my mithral shirt?

If you're wearing a mithral shirt, then you likely aren't going to get the bracers bonus, unless they're of a higher bonus than the mithral shirt. But then, you won't get the mithral shirt. You only get one of the two, the rest stack with either.

This. Also, iirc, a Ring of Force Shield is only ever a +2 shield AC bonus, where a Buckler can be enchanted up to being a +6 shield bonus, and if it's mithral, it weighs almost nothing and has no ASF.

Also, Silken Ceremonial Armor > Armored Kilt, because it's classier.

MrJello, do yourself a favor and look up bonus types, and stacking rules, then familiarize yourself with what what bonus type each AC source is.

Back in the day, you could do a chain shirt (4), dastana (1), cha har-aina (1), and buckler (1); and then enchant them all at +5 each for 27 armor bonus. Then you add your dex, ring of protection, and natural armor bonuses and you would have a light tank that could cast with 5% spell failure (if the chain shirt is mithril). It was beastly to be sure.

Can you enchant the Ceremonial Armor?

Yes, and the kilt, and the buckler.

Buckler wouldn't work though with TWF though :(.

But i guess it helps to have just in case.

Didn't know you we're TWFing. Why don't you tell us about your character.

In that case, keep the ring of shields, don't think tw defense will help, but you can use the chain shirt, ring of protect, ring of shield, nat armor, and armored kilt.

For maximum helpful advice, I suggest telling us the intended build.

Well i have a ranged ranger and I might make a TWF soon.

Ya I haven't played long enough to know what good ac is at higher levels or if i should focus on it so much as a twf.

But all this information is very helpful whether I use it soon or in a year. :)

Dark Archive

Unless you can get a ridiculous amount of AC (which, as a TWF Ranger, you might be able to do if you go Sword and Shield TWF, but I doubt it) it's not worth focusing on.

You're gonna get hit, regardless.

Grand Lodge

At higher levels, AC becomes irrelevant.

Best options are to kill, or incapacitate, your enemy as quickly as possible.

Ok good to know :)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

There is no such thing as Silken Ceremonial Armor! There is only War Pajamas!

Liberty's Edge

Please note that unless you first purchase or find mithral armor or armor plus one or higher, you have to start with masterwork armor before the armor can be enchanted to plus one or higher.

Things that give you miss chance, like Blur, remain relevant all the way to 20th.

Amulet of Natural Armor
Armor, any
Dexterity score, high
Dodge
Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone or Cape of Bravado
Improved Natural Armor (unlocked via Ironhide feat if human or dwarf)
Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier
Ring of Protection
Shield, any

This is how you make a tank, by spreading out your AC bonuses amongst as many cheap items as possible.

Scarab Sages

To add to that, a shield in one hand, no weapon in the other, Deflect/Snatch Arrows, Crane Wing, Missile Shield, Ray Shield.

Hard to hit, but when something does, negate it?
