Deity questions

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I havent seen these answered anywhere and i haven't seen much in the way of Dev statements about gods and mechanics. These questions are mostly due to the current crowdforging poll.

I have to assume that limiting the choice of gods to those 9 (one per alignment) means that having a god must generate some form of extensive mechanical system. I also have to assume that this system is much more than simply what domains a divine caster has access to as having two minor level dependent abilities and a few additional spells added to your casting list seems very trivial when compared to a pet or fast travel system. I also have to assume that it is more than art development time as it would seem easier to give the players the choice of their favorite deity and have them use a place hold item verses not having X god in game at all by EE. (like a Lawful Good holy symbol for all Lawful Good gods, ect)This poll generated a few questions.

What is the system that forces such a limited list?

What happens to a character who is forced to choose one of these gods and the one they really want gets added later?

Will there still be an option/ place to a character as a follower of another god without the mechanical system?

Why these gods, as they do not cover the core major deities (Torag, Sarenrae, ect)?

Will churches/ religious groups act as an alliance choice?

Will most if not all of the major deities be added by Open Enrollment?

As someone interested in playing a cleric and a paladin, these are things I would like to know. Save these questions for when the second crowd forging vote gets reposted, so we can follow up there.

These kinds of questions are why I am saying we should crowdforge the starting pantheon.
Let us vote on favourite deities for each alignment. Provide a 'conversion' system for future additions.

I know, that was the very post I was thinking about, I just don't know how to copy & paste links on my gfs iPad. :)

When entering the link in text just type in the [square bracket codes].
Example using my own website (but to make them visible without making the link I will use round parentheses rather than square brackets.
(url=http://www.silentangel.org)this would link(/url)

Had I used square brackets rather than round parentheses it would just have linked as in the following:
this would link

Some very interesting questions, I guess they want to do quite a lot with the deities. And there is nothing that prevents them from just copy pasting the existing god descriptions into the game and let you chose.
If course that choice might not be properly supported, until all the art assets for the god are finished (temples, holy symbols..). So you might have to use a placeholder holy symbol. It could work, if the want it to. Of course I don't know how much difference there is going to be between the various clerics and what kind of merit badges the can gain.

Speaking for myself, I would like the option (if not at start up..but at some point). be able to use deities from outside the "base 9" set. all of our chars in story come FROM someplace ELSE.. so it would make seince that our god choices wont necerarly be from "the local area".

My personal choice for my envisioned character is Qi-Zong from the Dragon Empires area. My character will be either human ..or half/elven from the Dragon empires who has come to to the river kingdoms based on loose dreaMS/nightmares?) his dieity has been sending him of late, moving him to where he will be needed.
Qi-Zong is the god of Healing, Magic, and Medicine (magic in the form of the 5 elments ((fire/metal/earth=stone/ water/ and wood.
my char will be a Healer/cleric who will also focus on herblism/alchemy (medicine) and dabble with wizardry(magic- spells selected from the five elements and healing abiltites)
so he would be the perfect dieity fit for my character.

i will probly have to choose a diffrent NG deity to start game..but would love the option of converting to him later in game .
Just my 2 copper peices worth.

You'll be able to roleplay around whatever deity you want. The mechanics of alignment and Domain are fairly deep rooted. The original 9 were chosen in part to optimize domain overlap, to reduce the number of domains that needed to be implemented. I expect they will make it as easy as possible to switch gods when your preference becomes available.

Adding deities is expensive, time consuming, and provides very little in the way of gameplay compared to many other systems. Such a discussion is also a minefield of personal hobby horses. We will not be adding more deities, until that comes up. We will not be adding more domains, until that comes up.

If you are keen for these things to come up sooner and keen for a particular deity to get some love - get crowdforging!

A very deliberate "not no, but also not right now", so start rounding up support!

I think this makes an excellent element of role playing our characters. I've already addressed my character (and my party)'s need to select a new deity in part of my little story chain ain the thread "Settling In"

Honestly, I really hope clerics are given the option to choose a "Misc" option for deity. They'd get no faction benefits, or anything of the sort, of course, from that option.

I know this is really implausible. I'm just glad I'm not stuck playing a cleric. Druids4lief—I worship datlichen o'er there! :D
